Placements and Internships

2.5

  • The college is newly established so the placement and average package is not that much good here at St. Joseph's College, [SJC] Bangalore.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

3.5

  • There is one Hostel for boys on our campus, and one hostel for girls just outside the college at St. Joseph's College, [SJC] Bangalore. The boy's hostel faces some problems like shortage of water and no electricity but happens only sometimes. The girls hostel doesn't face that much problems when it comes to shirtage of water or electricty but the catholic sisters who act as wardens in girls hostel are extremely strict. The curfew time for Boys and girls is 6:30 PM.
  • There are a lot of PGs outside college. Our college is located in Shantinagar and there are a lot of residents living there. With growing demand for PGs, many new ones have come up. So that is not a problem.
  • The college has canteen that serves food at a reasonable price. There is also an option to opt for the mid-day meal.
  • The college library is pretty huge with a huge variety of books to choose from. When you join the college, you would get an ID card and a barcode stuck to it. You can use that log into the Library domain or borrow books. Our library also has online e book facilities with over a million books.
  • One complaint I have about the infrastructure is the construction of the new administrative and the extension of humanities block. There is so much dust around in the college that it becomes bothersome for many because the vehicles get really dusty and some with severe dust allergies suffer sometimes.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

  • The eligibility criteria at St. Joseph's College, [SJC] Bangalore are as follows.
  • We had no entrance exam, just an interview. I bought my admission forms for Rs. 300 and had submitted it to the college office. The next day I got a mail saying there was walk-in interview for people who got 80% above (General category), 75% (SC/St) and 70% for Roman Catholics.
  • The admission was straight forward. I secured 86% in my II PU and went for the walk in interview. The commerce faculty members took the interview for me and asked me a series of questions such as what were my reasons for joining this college, why I chose B. Com and then proceeded to tell me about the course and the college rules that I should abide by.
  • After the interview, the interviewer gave my application form back with his signature that I had to run through the principal before paying my fees.

Academics and Faculty

3.5

  • St. Joseph's College, [SJC] Bangalore daily routine class starts at 7:00 AM, that many would find inconvenient but once you get used to it, it's actually really good. You don't have to face the Bangalore traffic at its peak hour. It saves you time travelling. Also, our college gets over really quick at around 12 PM or sometimes until 1 PM. So you have the rest of the day free, that may help many students who want to take up internships or professional course tuition.
  • As for the faculty, we have 9 commerce faculty members and we have 9 sections (4 sections for 2nd years and 5 for 3rd years, the new batch hasn't started yet so we still don't know yet).
  • The faculty members are very knowledgeable about their subjects and have really good teaching skills. A few members have some communications problems but are really approachable and are really helpful.
  • The college is strict with its rules and regulations and any misconduct or misbehaviour is never overlooked. It is also very strict with our attendance with a minimum percentage of 75%. If a student has less than that but above 70%, you would have to write a lot of assignments to make up for it. But if it falls below 70%, you wouldn't be given the hall ticket and you have to re-write the exams later.

Fees and Scholarships

4

  • In our first year, we paid course fees of Rs. 41,000 and in our 2nd year it was Rs. 46,000. For our 3rd year, we would be paying Rs. 51,000. We have additional fees for languages and parking facilities. B.Com students don't have foreign languages such as German and French, and we don't have Sanskrit either.
  • The only languages available for B.Com are Kannada, Hindi and additional English at St. Joseph's College, [SJC] Bangalore. We have to pay extra fees only for additional English that is Rs. 4000 (for the 2015-2018 batch). It has increased to Rs 8000 for newer batches. Other languages don't have any extra fees.
  • Also, students who want parking facilities must pay an amount of Rs. 1000 every year.

Clubs and Associations

4.5

  • We have one student council that has around 54 associations that organise various fests. We have NSS, AICUF, WACC and a lot more! We have various fests from these associations at St. Joseph's College, [SJC] Bangalore.
  • We have around 30 departments in our college which have their own fests. There is always some or the other fest constantly happening on the campus. We have few major fests such as PRATIBHA, NIRVAAN, EXODUS etc that the college or the student department conducts.
  • The life in college is really something I love. There are so many people from different backgrounds studying here and everyone here is really friendly.
