Placements and Internships

Scope of good final placement is very high. Many industrial giants visit the campus every year. ITC, Samsung, TCS, Hero, Honda, Maruti etc are some of the companies that recruit for the final placements. Average package in 2013-14 was around 4.5 Lakhs pa. Whole of the batch of Mechanical Engg got placed in 2013-14. Internship is based on students and the college does not take any responsibility for the internships. In case the students are not capable of finding any company, college offers a project under the current faculty as internship. It is a 2 month opportunity for the students to get the industry experience. Later on, students have to submit the report and present in front of the professors.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

5

For the first year students, classrooms have no projector (The class can be shifted in case professor or the students ask for the projector). For second year onwards, classrooms are properly equipped with the projector facility. Class has a strength of max 60 students. Labs have all the machines and are in working condition and available to students as per their requirement. Hostels are connected through LAN. Internet facilities are available in each department. There is no Wi-Fi facility in the campus (It is available in the selected departments such as CS). Autos are available outside the campus throughout the time at a reasonable cost dor local transport. City is well connected with other cities and states through Buses and Trains. Airport is available in Amritsar as well as Chandigarh.

Academics and Faculty

Academic schedule at NIT Jalandhar is very good. Student can study as well as play sports. Weekends are officially off. Schedule includes 2 minor examinations and one major examination. There is a 10% weightage for class participation also. Academic rescheduling can also be done. Students do have a considerable say in the college. Most of the professors prefer to teach via black-boards (although Projector facility is available in case faculty asks for it). They are easily accessible even after the classes, but only during the working hours. Although, if during a project student seeks some advice, they are always willing to help. Frequent factory visits can be made, but students have to take initiative to talk to companies (Faculty is fully supportive). For learning practical aspects, various labs are also there. Labs are updated with the latest machines and students have full access to use them. Regarding the projects, student can do as many projects as he/she wishes to do. Some teams have already established their name in this category. For example: Team Aviskar takes part in BAJASAE competition every year and secured 4th rank in INDIA last time ie 2013-2014 event. Similarly, there is a team for SUPRA event. (These competitions are more related to the Mechanical and Industrial Engg. students) All the professors are highly qualified and its upto the students to take the maximum out of them if they get an opportunity to join such a prestigious college.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : For getting admission in any NIT, first, you have to qualify JEE Mains examination. You should have 60% marks in your 12th standard examination. The question paper contains 90 questions and maximum marks you can obtain is 360. There is also negative marking for wrong answers. So you should be well prepared for the examination. Combining your marks in JEE mains and your Board 12th standard examination in percentile basis, you will be given All India Rank as well as State Rank. Your category rank will be also given. Then you have to wait for counselling and have to fill your choices like in which college you want to join and in which branch. You should carefully fill the choices.
