Placements and Internships

2.5

  • I'm still in my first year so there's nothing for me to write here. My college doesn't have many reputed alumni or at least that's what our seniors say. My course doesn't offer placements and stuff cause it's not that kind of course. I can't say for other courses, though. But probably even in those, our college wouldn't have many reputed companies offering placements to the students.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

1

  • I don't live in the hostel so I have no clue about the number of seats in the hostel or the annual fees of the hostel. I do live in a PG in Hudson Lane which is like 25 minutes away (on foot) and since we started searching late, we got a good but expensive PG room which wouldn't have happened if we were a bit early in our search. I live with my sister in the PG and the cost of the room per month is 13,000 (per head) so we pay 26,000 per month. The food in college is okay. But it feels like it could be so much better when we see the canteens of other DU colleges and taste the food there. The food is not that expensive. 50 is the highest price on the menu and 10 is the lowest. There's a separate Nescafe too which is pretty expensive and the food is okay. We haven't been given the WiFi password which we are pretty pissed about. The classrooms look really old and some look ready to collapse. The Labs are well maintained, are air conditioned (no other classrooms have AC), the library could be better. Literature student are really excited to explore the college library but was pretty disappointed because it's not that big, has old and stereotypical books in the literature section, and we aren't allowed to issue books.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

  • There was no entrance exam for my course in the college. After our name came in any of the cut-off lists, were given one and a half day to go to the respective college and get our documents verified. The instructions about the number of photos and the number of photocopies of our documents were not stated correctly online which proved to be a problem because it created panic and chaos among the already nervous students. I stayed there for 4 hours, 1 and a half of which I was waiting because my admission was being verified online and the site was crashing. The cut off for B.A. English is usually pretty high every year and this year was no exception. It started from 95-96 in the first cut off. And it was around 93-92 in the second. I took admission in the 2nd cut off.

Academics and Faculty

1.5

  • The time table is okay. Sometimes it2 really bad cause there's like a huge gap between classes and those who come from far away places cannot go back home and then return to college in time. So they have to wait around for like 4 hours sometimes. And some classes are really late which again creates a problem for those who travel quite a distance to college because they don't find transport easily that late and by the time they reach home, it's dark out (in winters). Some teachers are pretty good with the students. They encourage the students to participate in class discussions and do not ridicule them if they get something wrong. Some teachers do that. Some are pretty helpful while some do not bother to help newbies at all. The quality of teaching is okay. Every teacher tries her best. The overall experience right now is pretty bad cause a few days after classes began, the ceiling collapsed and classes got canceled for 2 weeks straight and then some subjects like GE subjects started a limitation on the number of students allowed and it again caused a lot of problems. And there is still a shortage of classrooms and we have to take classes outside sometimes or go to the faculties in front of our college.

Fees and Scholarships

2

  • The fee for my course is Rs.16,000. There are not many scholarship options for students in my course. I thought there'd be scholarships for foreign studies but there's not. There are only for students with the weak financial background. Or scholarships which offer a measly amount of money for the toppers. I don't really know about the average number of students that get scholarships.

Clubs and Associations

2.5

  • There are so many societies in our college. NSS, NOS, NCS, etc. There are debate societies, dance, quiz, singing, arts societies. Since it's my first year, we haven't really seen any of the fests and stuff yet. But we hope they're good since nothing else seems to be. Life in college was pretty bad at first but now that friendship is formed between new people, it has Improved

Entrance Exams & Admissions : In English honors, the student has to read novels and also the history of English literature basically so that they can get an idea about the background of English literature and it will also help them to secure good mark. Also the admissions are on the basis of the cutoff.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : The eligibility criteria and admission procedure for B.A. Hons. (English) in Delhi University was cut-offs. There were no entrance exams in Daulat Ram College. The cut-offs for English Hons. , especially in Delhi University,go really high. The highest cutoff this year being 99% in St. Stephen's college. I got admission into Daulat Ram College when it's cut off was 92.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : Admission to DU for Humanities courses is purely on the basis of marks, through a cut off which is different for every college, which I personally think is very inadequate. There should be interviews to filter out the best of best since it's supposed to be the best govt University, Daulat Ram College, Delhi University.
