Placements and Internships
- Around 60 key companies from IT, manufacturing and construction sector visit NIT Hamirpur every year.
- Apart from this, around 30 students from our campus go abroad for internship.
- Alumni network is also pretty strong. Wipro's vice president is also one of NIT Hamirpur's alumni.
College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities
- There are about 15 hostels. Hostels have facilities like LAN and WiFi connectivity, gyms, common rooms (for indoor games and tv), study rooms, canteen and mess.
- Hostel food quality is very good.
- Hostel fee is INR 40,000 PA for boys and INR 30,000 for girls.
- PG's are available outside college.
- Quality of labs is average, library is wonderful for general and competitive studies.
- WiFi in computer centres and near departments are good, dining halls are also average and in terms of infrastructure it is one of the top Institutes of India.
Entrance Exams and Admissions
- The admission procedure or selection criteria is through jee mains.
- The cut off in mechanical for state quota students were higher and computer science was very much in demand for other state quota students. Now with the introduction of integrated courses, all India rank upto 45000 and state rank upto 300 will give you a seat in NIT if you are from general category. As for other category students are concerned cut off can go as low as all India rank 150000.
Academics and Faculty
- Class timing are from 8:30 AM to 4:45 PM with breaks in between.
- Students have to do 2 academic projects, one major and one minor in final year. Apart from that, working with teachers and friends students can undertake any number of projects for their interest or research in any year. As part of internal assessment which constitutes 40 marks,usually 1 or 2 assignments and class tests (generally mcq based) and mid semester exams(20 marks) are conducted. Final exam is of 60 marks and students have to get 20 marks the exam and 40 overall to pass the exam.
- Quality and method of teaching is average.
- Overall experience is excellent.
Fees and Scholarships
- The course fee is INR 78,000 per semester for general/OBC category students whose parent's income from all sources is more than INR 5,00,000. INR 45,000 per semester for general/OBC with income upto 5,00,000 and INR 18,000 for SC /ST students.
- Various scholarships options and loan schemes are available for students.
Clubs and Associations
- There are several student societies such as technical clubs of every department, innovation clubs, cultural clubs, sports club, English club and society awareness clubs.
- One main cultural and technical festival is conducted every year. There are great opportunities for both professional and personal development in the college. The life in college is awesome. Time to time you get guidance from seniors for right career direction.

Academics & Faculty : The routine at National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur [NIT Hamirpur] is very extensive in the first year and then it eases as you move ahead. Professors are glad to help out willing students. The courses start from the basics and move towards specifics. Almost all the professors use letest techs to teach. Assignments are given on regular basis. 20% of marks are on the basis on your performance, participation and attendance in class. so A good place for those who are self motivated.
