Placements and Internships
- Internships are a must for all engineering students and the university encourages the students to get one from the first year summer holidays. While there are still In-House projects to be done, you must look for internships and report back to your teachers. In the final year, the university helps out in getting the best internships by recommending companies like HCL to let them hire you.
- Wipro, IBM, Capgemini and HCL are the primary recruiters for placements which are compulsory for all students.
- The average salaries range from Rs 3.5 LPA to as high as Rs 12.5 LPA. There are two phases of placement sessions, one in each semester of the final year. Around 70% of the batch gets placed in the first phase and the remaining in the second. The university makes sure every student is placed at the end of the year.
- The Alumnus is really helpful if you can get in touch with them on time. Make sure to check out the website of the university and reach out to all former passouts for any of your questions.
College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities
- While I wasn't a hosteler, I know a little about them. There are around 7 hostel buildings on campus and they are very well spaced. There are 3 more hostels off campus, not too far but in sector 44. Mostly freshmen and sophmores stay there till they move to the on-campus ones. The hostel fees range from Rs 60000 per semester for non-AC to around Rs 1 Lakh per semester for the AC.
- PG's are a popular option for a lot of students in and around the area given Noida has a lot of space for student residences. These are considerably cheaper from the hostel but do tend to exclude costs of travel and food at around Rs 40000 per semester.
- Food in the university is varied and well cooked. The mess may not be great, but there are too many options like Subway and CCD to be worried about. We have our own bowling alley and gym as well.
- The classrooms are well built and all air conditioned. The campus is fully Wi-Fi enabled and students are allowed to register 2 devices each on the intranet. There is a huge library with two floors and a CCD outside of it. Every student is allowed full access to it and can take as many books as required. The infrastructure is overall spectacular given Amity has 4-5 parking lots and has another one being made right outside the campus. It is very close to the Botanical Metro station and will soon be getting its own Metro station as well.
Entrance Exams and Admissions
- Admissions is a smooth process with plenty of teachers and students to assist you. However, I have heard that there is one now and the criteria is not that tough for the average student. You need around 70-75% in your board exams to be eligible for the college and anything above 80-85% is often rewarded with scholarships.
- At the time of my admission, there was no entrance examination for the Btech CSE course at Amity University, Noida.
- There are not any cut-offs for any course under engineering that I'm aware of. We are at liberity to choose the course we like under Engineering.
Academics and Faculty
- The daily routine is from 9:15 am to 5pm in the evening. The class timings are mostly 50 minute sessions with a 5 minute break between periods. The teachers are good and responsive to students with good use of technology in the teaching methods. The labs are well maintained and softwares are easily avaialble from the lab assistants whenever the student needs them. Mostly the layout of the classses is such that the teacher is able to communicate with all students very well.
- Assignments and projects are given regulary to the students and expected to be returned in time. The grading is fair and the teachers are available to answer doubts in the cabins. Exams are held at the end of every semester with a strict notion against cheating. However, the students are generally good enough to have not to use any misconduct.
- My overall experience in my college was a decent one. Had I been interested in engineering, it would probably been an even better one.
Fees and Scholarships
- Much like an private university, Amity also charges a fair amount for all its courses. With a huge campus and every facility one can think of, students are asked to pay around Rs 1.2 Lakh per semester which goes upto Rs 1.4 Lakh in the final semester.
- However, the scholarships available are very helpful to students who score well. From 50% scholarship for students scoring 85-90% in their boards to a complete 100% scholarship for scoreres above 90%, Amity is very rewarding in terms of academic success. Not only that, sporting achivements are equally rewarded with similar scholarships once the course has begun.
- In my batch, around 60% students were on scholarships and that is a big number for any college.
- Loans are not really needed since the university is very helpful to strong students with financial issues.
Clubs and Associations
- There are many student societies and clubs on campus which recruit very heavily all throughout the year. From Inertia, the famous dance society to Alfaas, the dramatic society, Amity University has a growing bunch of associations where students can participate. Technical societies like eDC, ACE club and EMC are the place to be for all future IT gurus and budding entrepreneurs.
- The main two festivals on campus are the Amity Youty Fest, the 3 day gala event with all sorts of competetions and cultural events ending with a live concert, held mainy in February and the Sangathan event, which is a sports meeting from August-October. While there are a lot of other festivals in the university, these two are the biggest and most heavily participated. Students are able to obtain medals and certificates in both events and these go a long way in aiding their profiles in terms of extra curricular activites.
- College life in general is pretty chill for students. There is general hectic nature to the engineering batches, sure, but it mellows down as you get into your third and fourth years. the teachers are respectful and chill as well and let the students be.
