The admission to the college is strictly on merit basis through reservation of seats for the minority community is prevalent. Admissions are based on the ranks obtained in the KERALA ENGINEERING ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (KEAM), a statewide test.
Many big Companies such as TATA CONSULTANCY SERVICES, INFOSYS etc hire students from the college.
The course fee is Rs 8225 per year as prescribed by the Commissionor for Entrance Examinations Kerala. Many scholarships such as eGrants, those from Malayali association of USA are available to the needed students. Loans are not much necessary because it\'s a government college and the fee structure is nominal.

Aspirants must pass their Higher secondary or plus two equivalents with a minimum of 75% mark. Aspirants must attend an entrance test (KEAM) and qualify within a rank of below 4000. For mechanical engineering cut-offs for general category was within 4000 ranks in KEAM entrance. Govt engineering college Thiruvananthapuram (GECB) also offers courses like BTech in Civil engineering, Electrical and electronics engineering, Electronics Engineering, and Information technology. GECB is the only college in South India that offers a course in collaboration with Mercedes Benz (ADAM).
GECB also provides Internships and stipends. There are many companies like Wipro etc. that hire from our campus every year. More than 50% of a batch which gets placed each year with average salary figures around 10 Lakhs per year. Eligibility criteria are completing plus two in any syllabus with physics maths and chemistry as subjects scoring not less than 50% for each. The entrance exam was Kerala Engineering Architecture and Medicine Entrance exam. In order to get admitted to the college, the rank should be within 3000.
Internships are not necessary for the curriculum according to the University. But students do take internships in various fields like thermal and hydropower plants, steel manufacturing plants, nuclear power plants etc. The institution has a great placement record. Almost all the students get placed. More than 50% of the placement occurs in the IT sector. The highest salary offered was INR 16 lakhs per annum.
