The ECOMIT Block has three departments in it namely, E'lectronics COMputer and Information Technology. This block contains the Central Computer Lab. The Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Engineering departments have their respective blocks. The Engineering Sciences and Management block have facilities for research in basic sciences, such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, and environmental sciences. The same block also holds buildings for management classes. The Hydraulics Lab and Workshop contain various equipments to facilitate the learning and researching in the areas of basic mechanical engineering and fluid mechanics.
The state-of-the-art auditorium and open-air theater hosts various cultural programmes and national and local seminars.
Besides, each block, apart from the administrative block, is equipped with its own computer lab, library and other facilities relevant to their own learning and research purposes. This club was formed in collaboration with CREDA (Chhattisgarh Renewable Energy Development Authority), Government of Chhattisgarh. It is supported by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency of the Government of India through CREDA. It is in process of obtaining NGO status, thus making it the first students' club of an engineering institution in India to do so. It conducted Central India's first solar robot racing competition in 2009.
It organizes Urja Utsav which is the biggest technical and management festival in India to be organized by a students club. The club has its premises in the Mechanical Block. This club has its own quizzing team, cultural team and management team. The robotics club manages the technical requirements.
The robotics club is the only unofficial club of BIT. Managed fully by students, this club conducts annual workshops for first year and second year students in the field of manual and autonomous robotics. It conducts workshops at the Bhilai Institute of Technology (Durg and Raipur Campuses) and the Shankracharya Institute of Professional Management (Raipur). All technical events of BIT are managed by this club. Its students have won laurels in many technical festivals conducted all over India. Prominent wins were inTechkriti08 (IIT Kanpur), Techfest09 (IIT Bombay), Kshitij08&09 (IIT Kgp), Techniche09 (IIT Guhawati), Eclectika 09 (NIT Raipur), Axis08,09&10 (VNIT Nagpur) and Confluence10 (NIT Rourkela).
Some students of this club have won research scholarships from IIIT Hyderabad. The Green Regiment (Urja Utsav '10) conducted by this club had a participation of over 80 teams, making it the most successful robotics event in whole of Central India. It was the third event in India to get accredited by Tech4all Society, India and MetaWing (in collaboration with IIT Kgp).
Bhilai Institute of Technology, Durg is the first college in Chhattisgarh to have an SAE India chapter. BIT chapter has been instrumental in mobilizing engineering students in aerospace, automotive, and commercial vehicle industries. It conducts various workshops, lectures and other automotive-community-related events throughout the year. It has plans of participation in Formula SAE Baja, following an aborted attempt to participate Formula Student (UK) 2010 by the robotics club.
All departments have their engineering associations at the departmental level in collaboration with the I.E(India) chapter of various departments. These associations conduct many events throughout the academic year.
Various dance groups are present on the college campus. These groups take part in many cultural events conducted in Chhattisgarh. Out of these Step Up Gang is the most famous. It is also the official dance troupe of the college. It has won Campus Jung 2009 sponsored by Hero Honda and various youth festivals.

Academics & Faculty : The classes are good as far as the lecturers and infrastructures are concerned. Every 1.5 months a class test is conducted every semester making it a total of 3 class tests per semester. A sufficient number of classes are conducted for practicals. But overall its a kind of theoretical approach rather than practical. No open book exams are conducted. One can ask doubts to the concerned even after classes and during the classes. Quality of teaching is good.
Academics & Faculty : There is 2 semesters in a year, 2 Class tests, 1 midterm exam and 1 end semester exam held in Bhilai Institute of Technology. There are many courses offered to the students at Bhilai Institute of Technology. Teaching has a perfect balance between theoretical and practical knowledge. Professors are very supportive to the students.
