Placements and Internships

3.5

  • Internships are not good especially the in-campus internship part. Less well known companies come for hiring interns in the campus and stipend is also screwed. Though, CSE students do get few good interns but for the rest the scenario is bad.
  • Placement on the other half is good and satisfactory with students having more than 7 GPA gets placed rather easily. Various kinds of companies with different backgrounds come to hire students. Be it technical or non technical, both kinds of companies come for placements. Some companies are Facebook, Grofers, Amazon, Box-8, CIL, Shell, Cairn, Schlumberger etc.
  • Average salary is around Rs 6-7 LPA. It may vary. check the site for more detailed info www.ismdhanbad.ac.in
  • Alumni network is strong. Alumni do help a lot. Basant- the alumni meet is organised in the month of basant and this is an ideal time to interact with alumni and get valuable feedback of the industries they are or were associated with.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

3.5

  • 6 big boys hostel and 3 fairly spacious girls hostels are there and there is one more for international students. Hostel fee is free but there is an annual mess fee of Rs 30000 per annum. More hostels are being made to incorporate more students.
  • Students don't usually live outside the campus as it is safer and convinient to stay in campus.
  • Food is not that great. Especially for first years the food is very bad.
  • Lecture halls, Labs and Library is world-class. Campus doesn't have a Wifi yet but there is a LAN service. There is an oval garden with a historical petrified tree. Heritage building has a geological museum too.

Academics and Faculty

4

  • Academics and Faculty of Mining engineering as well as whole of earth sciences fields like geology, geophysics, petroleum, mineral and environment is good. Academics are well etched. The curriculum is well defined and industry friendly. The daily routine comprises of two phases, morning one starts from 8 A.M. and may stretch till noon and this maily includes the theory lectures whereas the afternoon session includes (usually) practicals. There are periodic evaluation of performances by means of presentation and viva-voce.
  • The quality of faculties especially the senior professors are great. There are many internationally acclaimed persons in the campus for guidance (mining has many ex-CMDs'of CIL as profs). The method of teaching is average. But the curriculum is not that tough and one can achieve great results with average hard work. Overall experience is satisfactory. Quality of education can be improved and faculties may be more open and supportive.

Fees and Scholarships

4.5

  • Course fee is approximately Rs. 70,000-80,000 per year. Mess fees is additional Rs 30000 of which Rs 10000 is refundable.
  • There are a number of scholarship options available and can be assessed easily from the colleges website. ( www.ismdhanbad.ac.in )
  • Students mainly get MCM scholarship given to students with good academic performance and economically fragile backgrounds ( family income below Rs 4,50,000. About 300 students can get the scholarship in a particular year. Number may increase or decrease.
  • Obtaining loans is easy. There is an SBI bank in the campus and one can easily get the loan passed by showing his/her relevant files. Also one can go for loan at the time of admission, it will save both time and work as SBI executives are present at the admission hall.

Clubs and Associations

4

  • There are numerous clubs and hobbies development opportunities in the campus. All the clubs such as literature, dance, music, gym, drama is placed under one building ie SAC (student activity centre). There is a separate facility for innovation centre. Couple of national level NGO's are also there namely Kartavya and FFI. There are ample amount of fest for the rejuvination of masses.
  • Prominent fests include Concetto (techno-managerial), Pratibimb (intra-college), Prakram (sports), Basant (alumni meet) and Srijan (cultural fest).
  • Life is chill in the campus. There is a lot to do and with more infra development undergoing in the campus it is set to be even greater. Yet, the place in which the college is situated has its boundaries as there is no airport or recreational or amusement parks.
