Placements and Internships

Our average placement is easily four-five time the university average. Not only are the placements higher, but also only for meaningful jobs. Our placement cell is one of the most widely sought after in the country at the undergrad level and at least during my time in college, it was one of the most hardworking societies in college. Despite a not-much-impressive academic record in college, I never found it difficult to bag a meaningful internship in all my three years here. The internships opportunities could be in any of the fields of your liking- research, consultancy, marketing, HR, finance, social service etc in different parts of the country. Placement opportunities would be available in similar sectors and can have the likes of large MNCs, Indian major brands and even startups showing up. (Word of Advice: Make it a point to turn up for the placement presentations not just for the sake of learning more about the company, but also because many of these have a pleasing snack supplements/lunch following the presentation.) Our college boasts of one of the most well-connected Alumni networks in the world. Being one of the oldest college in the country, it is very likely that you would come across a Stephanian in a good position in a company or institution of repute, and rest assured- just stating your college is sure to bond you better than anything else. College Alumni has been extremely helpful in funding college (and college society) events, mentoring existing students (via regular talks) and even in bringing internship/placement opportunities to college.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

The college shifted to its present location in 1941 from Kashmere Gate where it was previously located (Yes, being a part of this college necessarily implies you learn its college history :P). Yet, there have been modernization drives from time to time - From building new blocks to A/Cs and projectors in all classrooms and in the library(a very impressive one at that) and Wifi thought the campus, our college has adjusted well with the times. It is one of the most (maybe, the most) cleanest campuses in DU. We have a basketball court, gym, mountain climbing artificial hill, football ground, dark room for photography students and many other facilities for students and their interests. And yes! Parking facilities are available on campus as well! Walkable distance from the north campus metro station-'Vishwavidhalaya Metro Station'. Rickshaws, E-Rickshaws, rickshaws and buses are also available. Nearest Markets include Kamla Nagar, GTB Nagar, and many other minor markets. There are many Restaurants, Shopping complexes, and other entertainment options at close reach.

Academics and Faculty

St.Stephen's College offers BA Honors courses in Economics, English, History, Philosophy and Sanskrit, and Bsc Hons courses in Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics. Besides these, we also have two program courses - BA Programme and B.Sc. Programme. The subjects under each discipline are those as are prescribed in the Delhi University guidelines. Students also have to take an interdisciplinary course along with their main course. Coming to performance, our college has a consistent record of producing university medalists in many of the above-mentioned courses. Unlike what I have heard is the case in other colleges at the bachelor's degree level, the teachers in St.Stephen's are a very dedicated and considerate lot. Since many of them stay on campus, it would not be a rare sight to see them mingling very closely with the students, let it be in the cafe', the gym or even the halls. I can vouch for the teachers in my course at-least that they were very much concerned about each student personally, and gave due attention to each one's shortcoming -let it be in attendance or a dropping performance or even a lack of motivation. The quality of teaching ,is as the results have proved, nothing less than outstanding. Teachers in our college, play an active role in the college societies as the staff advisors and many a times take the first step in defending the interests of the students. In short, the ecosystem at St.Stephen's will make you feel like you're back in school , if not among your family itself.

Fees and Scholarships

Scholarship opportunities are available for your entire duration in college, and even for further studies (in Indi as well as abroad). The selection criteria for these are based on merit as well as need. Keep a watch on the college notice to stay updated on this. St.Stephen's College comes under Delhi University and follows the fee-structure as prescribed by the university (Additional charges do apply). Overall, the fee is very reasonable and within the budget of a middle-class family in India. Nevertheless, funding opportunities are available -details for this can be obtained from the college office anytime.

Clubs and Associations

The student societies are the life of the college. You are sure to find a college society of your interest midst the many that exist in college. Most of these societies are very active and organize events, festivals, workshops and talks throughout the year which are sure to keep you occupied if not just entertained. Not just in number, but also in quality and content would these events be superior to events you would generally come across. Sports is given its due importance in college with special coaches being called for the training of our teams. We had and have players that have played at the national and even international level. We provide a variety of sports to choose from - Soccer, Basketball, Swimming, Cricket, Badminton, Table Tennis, Shooting are some that I can recollect at the moment. There is also a sports fest where even non-team members can participate in competitions( these are usually inter-departmental competitions). For the sports, there is a very extravagant 'sports dinner' held at the end of the year, where those who excelled in their sports are felicitated by the principal.

Academics & Faculty : The classes and project are very tiring in the daily routine. The quality of teaching is very high level and advanced that makes it very difficult to comprehend. We need to refer so many books but still the exams are tough to do. College apart from academics is fun.

Academics & Faculty : The regular class timings are 8:40am till 1:15 pm wherein each lecture takes an hour. The college that I am pursuing my B.A(honours) degree from, St.Stephen's College, is a semi autonomous college that is affiliated to the University of Delhi and is one of the most prestigious colleges of India. The degree programme follows a semester system. I am in the final semester, presently. Every semester consists of projects and assignments. The theory paper constitutes of 75 marks and the internals constitute of 25 marks, wherein the internals comprises of projects/test of 10 marks and assignments of 15 marks, depending upon however way the Professors wish to segregate the division of marks. The quality of teaching is extremely serious and intellectual. They just mean academic business. The teaching methods are very fine.
