Placements and Internships

3

  • I have been placed for an internship with a good role and a stipend even amid a pandemic. However, such offers are far and few.
  • During internships, the students with finance majors struggled as there weren't many companies coming in till the end of February.
  • The placement team is trying to place everyone till the last minute, but if you're looking for a good role, stipend and a good company, I would suggest using your networks for the same.
  • Companies majorly came for business development (sales) roles, lead generation, social media/digital marketing opportunities in the marketing field.
  • Many internships have been with 0 stipends, but such has been the case with most tier 2 colleges, in my knowledge.
  • Our old batch (19-21) has the highest placement of INR 15 Lakhs and an average of INR 8.5 Lakhs so far.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

4

  • Nirma University has a lovely, lush green campus with plenty of gardens and outdoor areas. There are two hostels for boys and one for girls. Students have the option to choose among three types of rooms:
    • Non-AC rooms
    • AC rooms
    • AC rooms with attached bathrooms.
  • For non-AC and AC rooms, there are common bathrooms on each floor. Rooms are available on a twin or triple sharing. Warden is always available in case of any emergency.
  • Since it is a full-time residential program, students must stay in the hostels for the course duration.
  • Mess food is average and some days are better than others. The menu is changed monthly. The menu is changed monthly. Food delivery is allowed till the hostel gates, and students can bring their induction stovetops and kettles for other meal requirements. Mess timings are integrated carefully into the students' schedule. There are also additional canteens close to the hostel and the management block where one can buy food.
  • The library is well equipped, classrooms are spacious and facilitate discussions. Hostel rooms have a LAN internet facility, and the management block provides a wi-fi facility on laptops.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

  • To join Nirma University, one has first to clear their CAT exam. The students who obtain more than 75% in CAT will get a call to attend the TDP/PI round.
  • There are two parts to it during the interview process - Theme Development and Presentation (TDP), followed by an interview.
  • For the TDP round, they give you any topic (can be abstract, political, current affairs, etc.).
  • You have a minute to prepare and a minute to present. Since I was a fresher, my interview was centred around my college experience and my current affairs knowledge.
  • The panellists do not pressurise you or put you under any stress, and mine even cracked a joke when I got too nervous. A tip would be to encourage honesty, as most panellists can see through fabrications easily.

Academics and Faculty

4.5

  • During the pandemic, classes have been conducted through Webex. Most core classes are conducted in the morning, and elective courses are scheduled after 4 PM. We also have regularly scheduled webinars and workshops on the weekends to ensure that students would not miss out on a full-time residential program experience. Most sessions are hour-long, with a few exceptions.
  • The faculty at Nirma is well qualified, knowledgable and above all, very approachable. Moreover, most faculties are available to connect through email, texts or even video call in some cases.
  • All faculties have encouraged class participation and interactions. The pedagogy encourages self and peers learning, with ample class discussions and debates. Faculties use relevant and current case examples, videos, and extra readings to bring the concepts home. In addition, there are regular assignments and presentations with peer evaluations, helping students adapt to the online mode.
  • The course structure varies from subject to subject, but students can expect any combination of quizzes, tests, individual and group assignments in their evaluations.

Fees and Scholarships

4

  • Nirma Institute of Management, Ahmedabad Fee Structure. The course fee is about INR 13-15 Lakh for two years. The fee includes hostel, mess, additional charges, etc.
  • There are two types of scholarships offered to the students:
    • Merit-based - the top 30 students of each batch, depending on academic performance, get a scholarship of INR 1 Lakh annually.
    • Merit cum means based - students with a good academic performance from lower-income households also get scholarships up to INR 1 Lakh. More details would be mentioned on the IMNU website.
  • Students can avail of loans from all leading banks at the current interest rates if they cannot fund themselves. However, a loan of this magnitude generally requires some form of security with the bank.

Clubs and Associations

4.5

  • There are 26 student-driven clubs and committees at IMNU, each performing a specific role in the overall development of the student.
  • From marketing, media, public speaking to cultural events, clubs host all sorts of events and competitions to excel outside of academics.
  • The flagship event of IMNU is perspective Richter 10, which consists of a plethora of management events and additional fun activities across different fields.
  • College life is filled with daily activities and events.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : The eligibility criteria was a graduation degree with a score of minimum 50% of the total marks. The procedure for admission was CAT percentile based shortlisting after which there was a theme development and presentation wherein you had to propose your views on a topic presented to you on the spot. The last and final part of the process was a personal interview in which questions based on educational background, interests, hobbies, and current affairs were asked. The institute has CAT based shortlisting criteria and my CAT score was considered for this purpose. The typical CAT cutoff that can be considered to be a minimum shortlisting criteria, would be around 78 percentile for the full time MBA programme.
