  •  Teaching includes lectures, tutorials, practicals, projects, seminars, dissertations, and field & industrial training
  • . The Institute lays special emphasis on the tutorial system, which is based on a close personal interaction between students and teachers. 
  • The undergraduate students have to undergo a comprehensive project during the final year of their studies.
  •  A distinct feature of the education system at IIT Roorkee is the emphasis on overall personality development and instilling in students the qualities of leadership . Thus, extracurricular activities are an important part of student life.

  • The Institute offers a merit-cum-means scholarship to 25% of undergraduate students. 
  • Several other scholarships are announced from time to time. 
  • Bank loans are also easily available whenever required.
  •  Financial help is provided as Institute free studentship and scholarships to undergraduate students belonging to the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.
  • Students admitted to the 2-year M.Sc. degree in sciences are also awarded merit-cum-means scholarships.
  •  A number of scholarships, teaching/research assistantship schemes provide financial support to students of M.Tech. and Ph.D. programs. 
  • Sponsored (full-time as well as part-time), self-financing foreign students and M.B.A. students are, however, not eligible for benefits of this scheme. Students are encouraged to earn while they learn.
  • Prizes and certificates are given to students on the basis of their performance in curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

  • Fokki! That is how we define our dwelling places on the sprawling IIT campus. These bhawans are our legacy and they remind of us the glory this institute has had and of the renaissance it has witnessed.
  • Each hostel has a state of art Cyber Cafe, managed by students. 
  • All hostels are now fully Wifi connected, meaning that the Internet permeates the space we live in.

  • The competitive academic environment and co-curricular activities on campus keep the students on their toes.  
  • The students' clubs: the Hobbies club, the U.G. club, the P.G. club, the Alaknanda club and the Jawahar clubhouse the indoor sports facilities including seven Billiards & Snooker Tables, Carrom boards, Chess boards, Table Tennis facilities and a Foosball table. 
  • The hobbies club also has sections devoted to pursuits like star-gazing, philately and numismatics, and robotics. 
  • The clubs also have reading rooms with a plethora of newspapers and light magazines. 
  • Each of the clubs has a TV room with a seating capacity of a hundred-odd people providing a great atmosphere for watching the winning sixer or the not-so-interesting soap operas.

  • The ubiquitous student groups are what set IITR apart from other institutes in India, Here do the like-minded gather to work together toward a certain goal- be it getting out a magazine on time, or putting together a one-hour concert, or making a trip to a nearby village for social work.
  • From togetherness comes success and this feature of life here, certainly adds spice to the lives of the students.

  • Classes run on time and professors are very talented at Indian Institute of Technology.
  • The course structure is perfectly designed to meet present technological requirements.
  • There are some MoUs with German Universities but that is certainly not enough to create a nice exchange environment at Indian Institute of Technology.
