Bachelor of Arts [BA] (Philosophy) | Batch of 2015
Written on 12 Apr 2015
The teachers I've had experience with belong to the Philosophy, Psychology, and English department; all well experienced, passionate, and committed to doing justice to their subjects, while also being successful in rousing up that passion within their students to help them feel that they do sincerely belong in the classroom. The only problem I'd wager many students have faced involves the consequences of the teachers being, perhaps, too much into their subjects and the inevitable pride that comes along with that. The FYUP batch students were required to choose another subject as their second discipline course, one they wish to choose as their minor subject, only, the options were surprisingly scarce compared to the diversity of subjects the college offers to its first year students to major in. The departments (specifically the Psychology and Philosophy depts) claimed it wouldn't be prudent to offer the students their subjects as they'd find themselves unable to 'cope with the stress' of the course, let alone grasp the major concepts, now that they're being made to study it for merely 2 semesters. Well, I've heard that in other colleges, like KNC, none of the departments have straight out DENIED the students their wish to choose their respective subjects. I guess it's way better to leave it up to the students to decide whether or not they can handle the coursework and the overall stress. They're, after all, rational enough to see what lies in their best interests. If the teachers decide to cut back on their arrogance a little, that would seriously help the college to rise to new levels.

No hostel fasicility is provided, although plenty of options involving PG and monthly-rent apartment accommodations are available, some very close to the campus. The college has a canteen and a little Nescafé of its own, popular for its sandwiches, pastries, and chole-bhature (All vegetarian). Also, there's iced tea, frappuccino, hot coffee (both black and white), lemonade, and some known chocolate brands they keep plenty stock of. I'd rate the overall quality and variety of food an 8 on 10.

The life in and around the campus doesn't seem too dull, in spite that it's an all-girls institution and the other college it happens to share a wall with (KNC), too, is all-girls. Notably, there's a diversity among the students and teachers, yet the different student backgrounds do not deter them from mixing in with the crowd and feeling welcomed. There's no tolerance for prejudice based on race, religion, or economic background whatsoever, and student politics isn't as prevalent as in other colleges, or what I presume. Up until 4, the place appears to be mostly crowded, and the constant chatter lulls one into a sense of security. Right outside the campus, there are two great eating outlets: 'Mithas' and 'Diggin', with great crowds of students coming in and out through out the day, not to mention, all the popular areas in South Delhi- including GK M Block and N Block Market, Sarojini Market, Lajpat Central Market, Hauz Khas Village, and even Select City Walk, Saket lie within a few miles from the campus. Smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol inside the campus is strictly prohibited, on pain of expulsion from college.
