"UGC has added two new courses through the MOOCs. Students can check all details related to the new additions through SWAYAM here."
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has added two new SWAYAM PG Massive Online Open courses into their existing curriculum. Access to Justice and Environment Law are the new additions, which students can study in 8 Indian languages.
Moreover, in a notification by the Commission, which talks about the launch and integration of the UGC e-resources portal, along with CSCs/SPV of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in rural India, they have supplemented these new courses in it. Both the courses are accessible through the SWAYAM platform and UGC e-resources portal.
The aim of these courses, which are available in 8 languages, is to break through the language barriers in the education sector. Additionally, it will encourage learners to gain knowledge in their mother tongue. Thus, paving the way for flexibility and diversity. It critically aims at students looking to broaden their horizons through the Open Educational Resources (OER). Besides, UGC expects colleges and institutes to include these OER in their curriculums. Hence, leveraging classroom learning and diversification.
Subsequently, the Commission hopes that fellow universities and colleges will also provide a direct link to SWAYAM and UGC e-resources on their websites. They also wish these universities would promote these new learning opportunities through their social media handles. Wherein creating awareness for students to wish to study in their preferred language.
Currently, the Commission has made available 27 MOOCs in 8 Indian languages. Hence, providing a scope of study in Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Bangla, Telegu, Kannada, Malayalam and Tamil.
