Prabasi Utsav was celebrated in was celebrated in Greater Noida in Gautam Buddha University with over 3700 Prabasi Odias living in NCR. The auditorium of the university saw a huge outcome of people for the grand and auspicious celebration where the traditional culture of Odisha was reflected in the event. It was an interactive celebration for Prabasi Odias that happens once in a year. The Prabasi Odia Utsav was inaugurated by the union culture and tourism minister, Dr. Mahesh Sharma who was very impressed by the richness of Odia culture. He spoke eloquent of Odisha culture and tradition and even promised to make provision for land for the construction of a Jagannath Temple in Noida/Greater Noida. The inaugural ceremony was attended among others by Padma Vibhushan Sh.

The inaugural ceremony was also graced by the presence of Padma Vibhushan Sh. Ragunath Mohapatra, Dr Prabhash Kumar Singh & Sh. Balabhadra Majhi, Member of Parliament (Loksabha) and several other prominent personalities. During the morning session, the felicitation ceremony for various categories were conducted by Prabasi Odia Ustav-2017 team for the outstanding contribution in various fields. Sh. Bijay Mohanty (Odia Film Actor) from Art & Culture, Dr. Siddharth Das (Dean & Principal, SCB Medical College, Cuttack) from Health & Education, Sh. Dilip Mohanty (Tennis Star) and Ms Dutee Chaand (Olympic Athletic) from Sports, Sh. Radhakanta Tripathy, Sh. Subrata Das & Ms. Shailabala Mishra (Social activists) from Social services, Sh. B K Swain (Industrialist) from Business World. It was also followed by colourful cultural progammes.
Purpose of Prabasi Odia Utsav
Prabasi Odia Utsav was organized at Bramha Kumari Ashram, Om Shanti, Gurgaon, Haryana in the previous year.The main aim of the organisation of Prabasi Odia Utsav is to promote Odia culture and traditions outside Odisha and also to strengthen Odia identity among Odias living in Delhi and its neighbouring areas. Prabasi Odia Utsav-2017 was organized by Odisha Jana Seva Sanghathan as well as Prabasi Odia Paribar.
