National Testing Agency - The Conducting Authority of Joint Entrance Examination

From 2018 onwards NTA (National Testing Agency) might be conducting the JEE Main examinations which used to be conducted by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) earlier. According to sources from the board, JEE Advanced exam 2018 shall also be conducted by National Testing Agency.

Ministry of Human Resource and Development has forwarded a letter to seek approval from IIMs and IITs to allow Management Entrance Examination CAT and JEE Advanced exam to be conducted by National Testing Agency. The cabinet has decided that all CBSE exams need to be conducted by the National Testing Agency only. As these exams are conducted by IITs and IIMs their permissions are required to approve National Testing Agency as the conducting authority of JEE Main and JEE Advanced examination.

JEE Mains exam will most probably be entrusted upon on NTA from 2018 onwards. JEE Advanced exam which used to be conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology, might go in the hands of NTA next year. The same notification has been sent by Ministry of Human Resource and Development to IIMs for CAT exams. In the past IITs have refused other conducting authorities to hold their exams.

The Ministry of Human Resource and Development is all set to invest huge capital in developing the infrastructure for the development of National Testing Agency and make NTA functional and operational as a full-fledged conducting authority of the major competitive exams in India. JEE Main and JEE Advanced might need proper scrutinization and standardization after going into the hands of NTA. IITs shall retain their interest in setting the paper and be marking the same as per their standards with only making NTA become the conducting authority of the JEE Main and Advanced exams beginning from 2018. National Testing Agency seeking interest in conducting the JEE Main and Advanced exams will have to include scientific methods to do the same with the current system of holding, scheduling and marking these exams.

The Cabinets decision to let National Testing Agency hold all the CBSE exams was declared on 10th November 2017 with reply still awaited from the IITs to let NTA conduct the JEE Mains and JEE Advanced examination.
