Indian Institute of Management Shillong (IIMS) won the annual business challenge competition organized by Tata Steel "Steel-a-thon 2017". This is the 4th edition of the prestigious competition. Corporate and digital strategy, Marketing and sales, Human Resource Management, Supply chain and Logistics were the various case studies that were discussed.
The grand finale was held on Monday, the 27th of November in Kolkata. 16 business schools battled for the final title. Their business case solutions were judged by a jury consisting of eminent people from the Senior Management team of Tata Steel such as Peeyush Gupta, Vice-President (steel marketing and sales).
IIM Indore emerged as the first runner-up followed by JBIMS Mumbai and SIBM Pune which together were declared the second runners-up.
The previous edition of Steel-a-thon was won by IIM Indore and IIM Bangalore won the one before that.
Participation from various Institutes:
Over 1600 teams comprising of over 5000 students in total participated in Steel-a-thon this year. This was a higher number compared to last year that witnessed around 1000 teams.
Steel-a-thon, an intellectual marathon gives students from different business schools throughout the country to gain hands-on experience in solving real-life management challenges. Students form teams and work on the problems. They are given mentoring by senior officials from TATA Steel.
