Renowned painter Jiten Hazarika, social activist, lyricist and filmmaker Nabam Tata, sports personality Tasile N Zeliang and Sattriya artist Hem Chandra Goswami also received honorary doctorate degrees in recognition of their valuable contribution in their respective fields at the 26th convocation of Gauhati University. Eminent litterateur Nilamani Phookan along with Mr.CNR Rao, A Bharat Ratna awardee were conferred with D.Litt degrees.
GU University ranked 27th by National Institutional Ranking Framework
GU chancellor and state governor Banwarilal Purohit shares his excitement with a speech which says Gauhati University must aim to be among the top 10 universities in India in the coming years. Gauhati received a major boost by bagging the 27th rank in the National Institutional Ranking Framework. The governor encouraged the authorities to strive towards equity in acquiring education in terms of gender, caste, disabilities etc. He says that the goal of being among the top 10 universities in India can be achieved only by focus, hard work, and dedication.
Scientist CNR Rao to provide funds to Gauhati University
Renowned scientist and Bharat Ratna awardee Dr.CNR Rao says that "The future of India depends on the growth of science and technology". He wants to stress on strengthening the roots of science in India that is from classrooms to materials required, latest technology, better lab facilities, seminars, workshops etc. He says that in order to become a leader in the world the country needs to strengthen its foundation in the fields of science and technology.
