Corporations now are looking for recruits high levels of emotional intelligence with good social skills than those with higher IQ levels.

Emotional Intelligence (EI):

Emotional intelligence is what determines the awareness of one’s feelings and their effect on the work environment. With higher Emotional Intelligence, one can recognize their moods, have impulse control, and maintain a sense of motivation which will help them excel. Those with higher EQ understand and try to empathize with others and manage their reactions and professional relationships better. The complete effect is that high EQ makes the employee what the companies need as the work gets done with minimal external motivation.

Developing EQ:

The first thing a person can work on is social skills. In the communication courses after Class 12th, communicating with people and understanding relationships will be dealt with on priority.   • Higher EQ equates to less stress: Those who are aware of their feelings and personal goals have less stress compared to those who don’t. They understand situations better and know how to handle the crisis. This, in turn, increases productivity and makes the employee stand out. This keeps the employee in the best professional shape as they can use their EQ to enhance their career on the whole or they can use their skills to know when to leave a job and start over.
  • Management of Emotions: As most wrong decisions are taken during emotional outbursts, companies look for employees who can manage their emotions well. An employee can hire a wrong person while in a happy state. They can also fire a good employee in anger. EQ gives control over one’s feelings and helps the person take better professional decisions. This inevitably makes the individual an asset to the company.
