The Distance Education Directorate at Kuvempu University is a special cell that is designed to look after the welfare of the student in terms of presenting scholarships, fellowship opportunites and arranging for student education loans. It has a special unit that caters to the needs of the SC/ST students.
The University had first felt the need to sart off with a distance education programme when they realised that a large number of students wanted to pursue a post graduate degree, however, they weren't able to seek admission due to limited vacancies or even because commuting issues.
One of the main goals of this university is to provide equal opportunities at education to students from different backgrouns. Hence, the University started off with the Distance Education Programme. There are more that 50 courses being offered DDE Programme in the UG, PG and Doctorate levels.
Today,the DDE Programme at Kuvempu University boasts at having one of the most number of courses through distance education provided by any university.The motto of the university is 'Education for all' and this initiative has fostered a relationship between the students and the society.
One of the main goals of this initiative was to present an equal platform to students who have not had the opportunity to continue their higher education.
The University has a well bred staff for the DDE programme who help the students with counseling sessions or clearance of any doubts that the student may harbour.
Currently, the Directorate of Distance Education is offering 31 general and 22 specailized courses.
