AICTE organizes 36 hour hackathon at JSS college of engineering

In a major push to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India initiative, the government has organized Smart India Hackathon 2017 on 1 and 2 April 2017. The event is taking place across 26 centers in India. Around 10,000 programmers participated in the event making it the biggest hackathon in the world.

AICTE has organized a marathon 36-hour hackathon in JSS College of Engineering, Noida where students from across the country are working to solve problems provided to them. The Quint visited one of the hackathon centers in Noida to watch the programmers in action.

Issues of the programming world

The issues range from redesigning websites to creating apps with the database of students or creating a platform to update recruitment of faculty in educational institutions. Impersonation detection has become a huge problem in conducting school and competitive examination, especially online examination. One of the main causes of the difficulty is the lack of efficiency and integrity on the part of the invigilator. To have a fool-proof automated system, the ministry has asked the students to remove the human factor in impersonation detection. A GIS-based integrated solution for personal security where instant police assistance can be provided to a person in extreme distress or facing a high threat to safety. The system will cater to women and children when they need immediate help.
