What is NEET?

NEET 2019 is the abbreviated form for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. As the name explains, it is the qualifying cum admission examination which was declared as the official examination for the students to get admission to pursue their profession as Doctors. NEET 2019 was first declared official in the year 2012.

NEET 2019 was notified under the ‘Regulations on Graduate Medical Education 1997 and BDS Course Regulations, 2007’ by the Medical Council of India. The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India together with the Medical Council of India (MCI) introduced the NEET 2019 for both the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs.

Students who wish to follow their educational career in the field of medicine as MBBS or BDS in government or private medical colleges in India should mandatorily attend this qualifying examination.

The entrance examination also applies to postgraduate programs such as M.S., M.D. etc. This is the single entrance examination for more than 70000 MBBS and BDS seats across India.

The graph shows the percentage of the languages which the candidates used to write NEET 2019

NEET 2019 had replaced the previous All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) and all the other individual entrance examinations conducted by states or educational institutions themselves in the year 2013.

As per the Supreme Court’s order in the year 2016, the only examination to fill the All India Quota seats as well as the State Level Quotas across the nation is the NEET 2019. It is also applicable for private institutions inside the country.

The medical students of All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, Postgraduate Institute for Medical Education & Research in Chandigarh, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research  (JIPMER) do not fall under the NEET 2019 since these institutes have been set up by separate laws.

Candidates wrote the exam NEET 2018 in English (80%), Hindi (11%), Gujarati (4.31%), Bengali (3%), and Tamil (1.86%).

The latest entrance examination, NEET 2018 was held on 6 May and the results were declared public on 4 June. Till last year the Central Board of Secondary Education conducted the NEET examination, and from 2019, The National Testing Agency will conduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET 2019) for the candidates of India.

Why NEET 2019?

NEET 2019 serves as a single entrance exam for all the aspirants who wish to pursue medicine in India. Before NEET, there were around 25 Medical Entrance Examinations in India for the students to get an admission in Government and Private Medical Colleges.

The candidates suffered from writing 6-8 entrance examinations on an average causing unnecessary stress and chaos to the students. It is impossible for the parents and students to spend on various application form expenses, commuting expenses for the candidates to appear for the entrance examination in various cities of the country.

NEET 2019 will save time, money, and the precious-efforts of the students by standing as the only entrance examination for all the UG and PG courses. NEET has replaced examinations like All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT), Delhi- Pre Medical Test, Maharashtra Health and Technical Common Entrance Test (MHCET), Rajasthan-Pre Medical Test(R-PMT), West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE), Engineering Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) etc.

The NEET 2019 has not made any changes with respect to the state quotas. For the majority of the medical seat,s the candidates compete among the same state people. The number of medical seats available to the students stays the same. The 15% of the government medical seats in the central pool is also retained.
