UGC NET 2018 Introduction

  • What is NET exam: National Eligibility Test (N.E.T) is conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) to evaluate a candidate's eligibility for the post of Assistant Professor in Indian Universities & Colleges and Junior Research Fellowship.

  • Application Form Last Date: UGC NET 2018 Application Form is already out and the last date to submit is 30th September 2018.

  • Opportunities: Candidates upon qualifying UGC NET 2018 can be a part of the teaching profession and research on several subjects of Humanities (including Indian and some foreign languages), Social Sciences, Computer Science and Applications, Electronic Science, Forensic Science, and Environmental Sciences etc. Candidates are awarded Assistant Professor / JRF and Assistant Professor positions based on their performance in both the papers.

  • Frequency: NTA has proposed to conduct UGC NET twice a year starting from the year 2018.

  • Syllabus: UGC NET 2018 exam includes 84 subjects. The candidates can choose the subjects from their field of excellence. General Aptitude Test is common for all. 

  • Age Limit: According to UGC NET 2018 exam notification, the maximum age limit for Junior Research Fellowship has been raised from 28 years to 30 years.

  • Validity Period: The validity period of UGC NET exam 2018 Results will be 2 years with respect to the date of issue of JRF Letter. But the validity of UGC NET/CSIR Score for Lectureship is a lifetime.

  • Stipend: Monthly stipend for JRF, SRF and Assistant Professors through UGC NET 2018 are as follows:

    • Junior Research Fellowship: 25,000.

    • Senior Research Fellowship: 28,000.

    • Lecturers: 45,000.

UGC NET 2018 (July) Analysis

  • The successful conduction of UGC NET 2018 (July) was done by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on 8 July 2018.  Approximately 11,48,235 candidates have successfully registered for UGC NET 2018 (July).

  • UGC NET exam 2018 was conducted in 91 cities. The UGC NET exam was conducted in 2082 Exam Centres across India.

  • The major change was that the number of papers has been reduced to two from three. Around 55,000 candidates have cleared the UGC NET and qualified for the post of Assistant Professor. Candidates can refer the UGC NET 2018 Exam Pattern to prepare for the exam having a fair knowledge on the marking pattern.
  • Overall Difficulty level: The candidates who wrote UGC NET exam 2018 (July) felt that the overall difficulty level of the examination was Moderate.

  • Time Limit: Candidates felt difficult to complete the Paper I in the given time compared to the other Papers.

  • Extra time: For Differently abled students, 25 minutes of additional time was provided for Paper I and 50 minutes of additional time was provided for Paper II and Paper III.

NTA has released the Latest Guidelines for UGC NET 2018 

The conducting authority of the UGC NET, NTA has released the latest guidelines regarding the exam.

  • The UGC NET 2018 exam is a Computer Based Test.

  • Every candidate will be provided with a computer and are required to enter the login details to proceed with the exam.

  • The candidates can make changes in their answers anytime during the examination.

  • A countdown timer will be running on the top right corner of the computer screen.

  • When the timer reaches zero, the examination will end by itself.

Note: The time spent to rectify technical glitches during UGC NET 2018 will be adjusted.

  • Application Form: The last date to submit UGC NET 2018 Application form is 30th September 2018.

UGC NET 2018 Eligibility Criteria:

  • Minimum Qualification: To fulfill the UGC NET 2018 Eligibility criteria, candidates must have a minimum aggregate of 55% without rounding off (50% for reserved categories) in their Master's Degree or equivalent degree, in subjects like Humanities and Social Sciences, Electronic Science, Computer Science etc from a UGC recognized university/institution for UGC NET 2018.

  • Age Limit: Candidate must be below 30 years of age as on 1st July 2018.

    • Five years of relaxation is granted to Women candidates and OBC/SC/ST/PWD/Transgenders categories for UGC NET 2018. There is no age limit for the Assistant Professor role.

UGC NET 2018 Syllabus

  • Subjects: The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the UGC NET 2018 examination in 84 subjects.

UGC NET 2018 Exam Pattern

  • Marks: Each question in UGC NET 2018 carries 2 marks and the questions are of objective type. The UGC NET 2018 consists of two papers, Paper-I for 100 marks and Paper-II for 200 marks.

  • Paper Pattern: UGC NET 2018 Exam Pattern will contain a total of 150 questions which will be divided into two papers.

  • Paper-I will have 50 questions and Paper-II will have 100 questions, all of which are compulsory.

UGC NET 2018 Results:

  • Result Date: UGC NET Exam Results will be announced on 10th January 2019.

  • Criteria for Declaration of Results: A merit list is generated based on the aggregate marks of the candidates who secure the minimum marks required in both the papers.

UGC NET 2018 Category Wise Cutoff:

  • UGC NET 2018 Cut-off marks will be published on the official website of UGC NET as per the prescribed schedule. 

  • The number of qualifying candidates should be 6% of the total number of candidates appearing for both the papers.

  • Candidates need to score according to the criteria mentioned below to qualify for JRF/ Assistant Professor.

UGC NET 2018 Details Regarding the Aadhaar Card

NTA has sent an official notification that Aadhaar Card will not be compulsory for the registration of UGC NET exam 2018, but it will be one of the choices in the dropdown list.

UGC NET 2018 Guidelines

  • ID Proof: The candidates should carry a photo ID card along with the printout of the Admit Card on the day of UGC NET exam 2018.

UGC NET Guideline 2

  • Timings: Candidates should report to the exam centre at least 30 minutes before the commencement of exam. Candidates will not be allowed to leave the examination hall/room before 10:00 a.m. in the 1st session of UGC NET 2018 and 1:00 p.m. in the second session of UGC NET 2018.

Computer Based Test:

  • All calculations and writing work should be done on a rough piece of sheet which will be provided by the Invigilator at the exam hall.

  • The rough sheets must be handed over to the Invigilator once the examination is over.

UGC NET Guideline 5

  • Signature: Candidates should make sure that the signature and photograph should be identical and there should be no variation of any kind.

UGC NET Guideline 6

  • Restricted Items: The use of calculators or log tables in UGC NET 2018 are not permitted. Mobile phones, pagers, electronic devices etc. are not allowed in the UGC NET 2018 Examination Hall/Room.

UGC NET Guideline 7

  • Canvassing: Canvassing in any form will disqualify the candidate from UGC NET 2018.

  • Queries: Applicants should correspond only with their respective NET Coordinating Institution for Venue of test/seating arrangement or any other relevant information of UGC NET 2018.

  • Absentees: A candidate who does not appear in UGC NET 2018 Paper-I, will not be permitted to appear in UGC NET 2018 Paper-II.

Q: Can candidates with Degree appear for UGC-NET in Management?

According to the notification, candidates should appear in the subject of their post-graduation only.

Q: Are ranks assigned in the UGC-NET exam?

Ranks are not assigned in the UGC-NET exam.

    • Minimum marks for General Category: At least 55% marks should be secured by the candidates belonging to the General category in their Master's Degree or equivalent Examination from an University recognized by UGC.
