UCEED 2019 Introduction

  • About: Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design (UCEED) is a National Level entrance examination like any other design entrance exams that offer admission into the B.Des program at IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, and IIITDM Jabalpur

  • AuthorityIIT Bombay has the complete rights for conducting UCEED 2019  and to decide about modalities of admissions and allotment of seats.

  • Level: UCEED 2019 is a National Level Entrance Exam which is conducted across 24 cities in India. 

  • Courses: Course offered through CEED 2019 is Bachelor of Design (B.Des).

  • Application Form: UCEED 2019 Entrance Exam Application Form will be released on 9th October 2018 and the last date to submit will be 9th November 2018.

  • Admit Card: Admit Card will be released by the IIT Bombay on the UCEED 2019 official website on 1st January 2019

  • Exam Date: UCEED 2019 will be conducted through online mode on 19th January 2019

UCEED 2019 Eligibility Criteria

  • Qualification: Candidate should have passed Class 12th (or equivalent) or appearing in 2019 in any stream (Science, Commerce, or Arts & Humanities), are also eligible to appear for UCEED 2019

  • Age Factor: The candidate should have been born on or after October 1 1994, if belonging to the OPEN or OBC-NCL category and on or after October 1 1989, if belonging to the SC, ST or PwD category.

  • Attempts: A candidate can attempt UCEED for a maximum of two times and that too in consecutive years.

UCEED 2019 Application Form

  • Registration: Candidates should register for appearing in UCEED 2019. The application can be done only through the online registration portal i.e. www.uceed.iitb.ac.in.

  • Application Fee: UCEED 2019 Entrance Exam Application fee is INR 1200 for (Female/ SC/ ST/ PwD) and INR 2400 for all other candidates. Registration fee is NEITHER refundable NOR transferable.

  • Cancellation: Registration will be cancelled if, at a later date, it is found that the candidate does not meet any of the three eligibility criteria.

UCEED 2019 Exam Pattern

  • Pattern: 

    • UCEED 2019 exam is a computer-based online examination in English.

    • The exam consists of 3 sections Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions, Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) for a total of 300 marks.

    • Negative marking is only for MCQs, -1 for each wrong answer.

  • Marking Scheme: Section A and Section B will be awarded 4 marks each and Section C will be awarded 3 marks each, Section C will have a negative marking of -1 marks.

UCEED 2019 Admit Card

  • Availability: UCEED 2019 Admit Card will be available on the official website from 1st January 2019

  • Information on Admit Card: The Admit Card will bear the following details of the candidate: Name, UCEED registration ID, Roll Number for UCEED 2019, photograph, signature, examination schedule, examination centre details and instructions to candidates.

  • Corrections: Candidates should carefully examine the entries in the admit card and in case of any discrepancy, contact the Chairman JEE (Advanced), UCEED & CEED 2019 at IIT Bombay before the specified date via email mentioned in the registration portal.

UCEED 2019 Exam Centres

  • Selection: Candidates can select the exam centres of their choice in or across India.

  • No. of Centres: 

    • UCEED 2019 will be held in 24 cities across India and also conducted in Dubai.

    • Candidates should compulsorily choose 3 cities of their choice in the online application before submission. 

    • UCEED 2019 reserves all the rights to add a new city/ town or remove an existing one and allot a city/ town that may not be among any of the choices of a candidate.

  • International Centre:

    • Candidates opting for Dubai centre should also compulsorily opt for 2 cities of their choice from 24 Indian cities.

    • If the number of registrations is less than 25, then the Dubai center may be dropped from the final list, and those candidates will be allotted a centre from the 2 Indian cities of their choice, in the order of preference)

UCEED 2019 Syllabus

  • Sections: UCEED 2019 Syllabus will be based on 6 topics namely Visualization and Spatial Ability, Observation and Design Sensitivity, Environmental and Social Awareness, Analytical and Logical Reasoning, Language and Creativity, and Design Thinking and Problem Solving. 

  • Syllabus: UCEED 2019 Syllabus is based on 10+2 standard. It is important to understand the formation of questions from different subjects.

  • Common Syllabus: As UCEED is for the students of all the streams (Arts, Commerce & Science), so syllabus covers the topics which are common for design purpose and attainable for all streams’ students.

UCEED 2019 Results

  • Result Declaration: UCEED 2019 Results will be available on the official website on 1st March 2019.

  • Credentials: Candidates need to use their User Login and Password (created during the registration process) for viewing the results on the webpage.

  • Scorecard: UCEED 2019 qualified students will be able to download their Scorecard

  • Rank: Obtaining a rank in UCEED 2019 does not guarantee admission to the B. Des programme.

UCEED 2019 Counselling

  • Date: UCEED 2019 Counselling will commence from 8th June 2019.

  • Seat Allotment: Three rounds of seat allocation will be conducted. Seats will be allotted based on the applicant UCEED rank, category and choice of institutes. Candidates do not have an option to withdraw an accepted/allotted seat after the announcement of last round of seat allocation.

  • Admissions Institute: Admissions will be provided to the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programmes at IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati and IIITDM Jabalpur.

UCEED 2018 Paper Analysis

  • Overall Difficulty level: Candidates who wrote UCEED 2018 felt that the overall difficulty level of the examination was on the lower side when compared to UCEED 2017.

  • Paperwise difficulty: Candidates felt that Section A, B and C were easy. None of the questions asked in the exam was out of the syllabus.

  • Time limit: Candidates felt that it was easy to complete the paper in the given time.

  • Topics Covered: Following topics were covered in UCEED 2018:

    • Questions on fonts, counting of shapes, puzzles were asked.

    • Geometry was given some importance in UCEED 2018 and more emphasis was given on general knowledge like logos with importance to Indian art, culture, etc.

    • A question was asked where the students have to arrange the artist Picasso’s self-portraits in chronological order.


UCEED 2019 Important Instruction

  • Candidates must carry a printed copy of the downloaded admit card. Only those candidates having a valid admit card will be allowed inside the examination centre.

  • The candidate’s identity will be verified by invigilators as well as the IIT representatives. If the identity of the candidate is in doubt, the candidate may not be allowed to appear for the examination. However, the authorities at their discretion may permit the candidate to appear for the examination after completing certain formalities. No extra time will be allowed for completing the examination in lieu of the time taken for completing these formalities.

  • Impersonation in the examination is a serious offence which will thereby result in immediate disqualification of the candidate from UCEED, and lead to a criminal proceeding against the candidate.

  • Candidates will NOT be allowed to carry any electronic device (mobile phones, smartphones, digital/ smartwatches, calculators, tablets etc.), abacus, slide rule, log books, study material of any type, geometry box, etc. to the examination hall. A list of forbidden items will be put up on the website before the exam if there are additional items.

  • Candidates have to remain in the examination hall for the entire duration of the examination.

Q: What does UCEED stand for?

UCEED stands for Under-graduate Common Entrance Examination for Design. It is a national level entrance exam offering admissions to design courses in various IITs and IISc campuses.

Q: When will the UCEED 2019 Admit Card be released?

1st January 2019

Q: When will the UCEED 2019 Exam be conducted?

The exam is scheduled to be conducted on 19th January 2019.

Q: Does the exam evaluation follow negative marking scheme?

There is NO negative marking for the first 2 sections of the examination. However, -1 is awarded for every wrong answer given to questions in Section C.

Q: What is the age limit specified to appear for UCEED 2019?

All candidates satisfying the UCEED 2019 Eligibility Criteria and born on or after October 1st 1994 are eligible to apply. The specified date is relaxed till October 1st 1989 for candidated who belong to SC/SC or PWD category.

Q: What is the UCEED 2019 Syllabus?

The following topics need to be prepared by candidates appearing for the examination in 2019:

Q: I appeared for UCEED last year and did not join any course after that. Am I eligible to attempt UCEED 2019?

Yes. You can attempt the UCEED examination only twice in 2 consecutive years. However, the scores obtained in the examination are valid only throughout the corresponding academic year.

Q: What is the stream of +2 education required to satisfy the UCEED 2019 Eligibility Criteria?

There is no specific requirements regarding the stream in which candidates have passed their +2 examination. Candidates from all streams (Science, Commerce, Arts and Humanities) are equally eligible to take up the examination.

Q: Will there be any further rounds after UCEED #yearto seek admission in B.Des programme?

No. The score obtained in UCEED examination is the only selection criteria for seeking admission to B.Des programme in at a IITB, IITG, IITH and IIITDMJ.

Q: Is there any reservation provided for candidates who are foreign nationals or belonging to NRI category to apply for fashion designing exams?

No. However, such candidates can appear for the examination if they satisfy all of the UCEED 2019 Eligibility Criteria.

UCEED 2019 Eligibility

To appear for UCEED 2019, before filling the UCEED 2019 Application form, the candidate must satisfy the following 3 UCEED 2019 eligibility criteria:

  • Criterion 1 – AGE LIMIT:

The candidate should have been born on or after October 1, 1995, in case he belongs to OPEN or OBC-NCL category and, on or after October 1, 1990, if they belong to SC/ST or PWD category.

  • Criterion 2 – UCEED QUALIFICATION:

The candidate should be qualified in UCEED 2019 or have got rank in UCCED 2019.

  • Criterion 3 – QUALIFYING EXAMINATION:

  • Official website: Candidates appearing for UCEED 2019 should register online on the official website.

UCEED 2019 Exam Pattern

  • Mode: UCEED is a computer-based online examination.

  • Duration: The duration of the exam will be three hours.

  • Maximum Marks: The question paper will be for a maximum of 300 marks.

  • Marking Scheme: A total of 4 marks will be rewarded for sections A & B with no negative marking, but whereas for section C there will be +3 marks rewarded for every correct answer and -1 mark for any wrong answer.

  • Availability: Results of UCEED 2019 will be available on the official website from 1st March 2019 
  • Credentials: To view the results on the web page candidates can login using their login id and password which was created during the UCEED 2019 application process.

  • Score card: Qualified students will be able to download their scorecards from 21st Feb 2019 of UCEED 2019.

UCEED 2019 Counselling

  • Counselling Process: Counselling for UCEED 2019 will be held in three rounds in which the seats are allocated based on the applicant's UCEED rank, category and preference of institutes.

  • Allotment Of Seats: The first round conducted will be for all the candidates wh are selected. However, once the seats gets filled then the seat allocation will stop. 

  • Counselling Fee: Irrespective of category and gender candidates must fill in the Application Form and submit an amount of INR. 1000/- as a processing fee before the counselling process starts.

  • Seat Acceptance Fee: Through mail the selected candidates will be directed to an online payment system to remit the Seat Acceptance Fee of Rs. 60000/- for GEN and OBC-NCL and Rs. 15,000/- for SC/ST/PWD. Provisional allotment letters will be sent to candidates via their registered email.
