PGIMER 2019 Application Form, Eligibility, Results, Counselling 

About: Established in 1960, PGIMER is an institute that focuses on several disciplines of medicines working towards an objective of providing medical education of highest standards.

PGIMER Entrance Exam: Along with AIIMS, JIPMER and PGI Chandigarh Nursing Entrance Exam 1970, PGI Chandigarh Entrance Exam 1970 does not fall under NEET-PG. The institute conducts their own entrance exam which serves as the gateway to the students to get admissions in postgraduate medical education.

  • M.Sc./ M.Sc. MLT

  •  DM/M.Ch./MD

Admission processes to these courses happen twice a year; one in January and the other in July. The admission to these courses is by merit through an entrance examination by the institute itself.

Eligibility Criteria for PGIMER 2019 MD/MS

  • Candidates must have completed MBBS from a University or an Institution recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

  • Candidates must have either completed or in progress of completion of the compulsory rotatory internship training on or before December 31 for January session, and June 30 for July session.

  • Candidates must be registered with the Central or State Medical Registration Council.

Eligibility for MDS/ House Jobs (OHS)

  • Candidates must a graduate in Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Punjab University recognized by the Dental Council of India.

  • Candidates must have either completed or in progress of completion of the compulsory rotatory internship training on or before December 31 for January session, and June 30 for July session.

  • Candidates must be registered with the Central or State Dental Registration Council.

Note: Candidates who have already finished House Job in any Hospital or an institute will not be eligible for House Job.

Eligibility for M.Sc. / M.Sc. MLT

M. Sc. Pharmacology

  • Candidates should have completed MBBS or an equivalent from any University or an Institution recognised by the Medical Council of India (or)

  • Candidates should have completed their degree on B.Sc. (Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry) or B.V.Sc. or B. Pharma from an Institution recognised by the Government of India.

M. Sc. (Respiratory Care)

  • Candidates should have completed B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology or B.Sc.in Nursing or B.Sc. Medical or Bachelor of Physiotherapy from an Institution recognised by the Government of India.

  • Candidates should have completed their graduation with at least a minimum of 55%.

Note: for Sponsored Candidates, Candidates are required to have an experience in their respective fields after obtaining their degree for at least a minimum of three years.

Master of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (MASLP)

  • Candidates should have a degree in B.Sc. (Audiology and Speech Therapy) or Bachelor of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology.

  • Candidates should have completed their graduation with at least a minimum of 50%.

Note: For sponsored candidates, Candidates are required to have an experience in their respective fields after obtaining their degree for at least a minimum of three years.

Eligibility Criteria for DM / M.Ch.

Candidates should have completed a degree in MD / MS or an equivalent recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

Eligibility Criteria for MD (Hospital Administration)

  • Candidates should have completed MBBS, which should be recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

  • Candidates should have at least a minimum of 3 years experience in a hospital or 5 in general practice.

  • Certificate issued by Digital Magistrate in support of the general practice.

  • Candidates should have secured a minimum of 55%, and candidates who belong to reserved categories should have secured at least a minimum of 50%.

  • The candidates should have registered with the Central / State Medical Registration Council.

Application Form Details for MD/MS / MDS/ House Job

Candidates are required to upload their photograph while filling in the online application form for PGIMER 2019 MD/MS. The scanned document should not exceed the file size limit. The specifications are provided below.

  • The image should be in the JPEG format

  • The size of the image should not be more than 50 KB.

  • The photograph should be taken with the name of the candidate (as in application), and date of taking that photograph. The photograph must be taken on or after September 2018. 

  • Note: For MDS/ House Job, the photograph will be affixed in the space provided in the application form. A passport sized photograph is preferred, any other will not be entertained.

The application fee for all the categories is Rs. 1000.

Payment Mode for MD/MS / MDS/ House Job

Candidates have the option to pay the application fee amount either online or offline. 

  • Online: Candidates can pay the application fee through the payment gateway. They have options such as Debit Card or Credit Card or Net Banking.
  • Offline: Candidates, in the case of offline payment, are required to go to any branch of State Bank of India with the fee Payment Challan duly filled.
    • (The candidates should write his/her Name, Address, contact number and course name in which he/she is applying, on the back of the Challan form).

    • It is required to be filled up in the name of Director, PGIMER, Chandigarh (Examination) in the Power Jyoti Account No. 32211613319.

Note: Candidates must note that no other form of payment of application fees like Demand Draft, Banker, Cheque, Money Order, Postal order, etc. will not be accepted under any circumstances.

Application Process for MD/MS

  • The candidate should fill his/her online application form available on the PGI website (http://www.pgimer.edu.in).

  • Candidates are required to fill in their information regarding their personal details, educational qualifications and achievements.

  • No fields/columns provided in the application form should be left blank.

  • After filling application form the candidate should deposit the application fee through the challan form (Triplicate) in any branch of SBI.

The Applications of above-mentioned categories i.e. Foreign national and Sponsored category along with the requisite certificates must reach the office of Registrar, PGIMER, Sector-12, Chandigarh-160012, at least 15 days before the commencement of the Entrance Examination.

Note: MD/MS Candidates belonging to the Foreign National Category MUST write Three choices of Subjects on the printed Application form.

Application Process for PhD

  • A list of the faculty members who are willing to take PhD students and the number of available seats will be displayed on the website. The Annexure– 7 is required to be recommended specifically by the concerned faculty member.

  • Candidates who already have a fellowship should choose a department and the faculty member in the application form.

  • Candidates can apply only in one department and one faculty.
  • The guide will have the option to select or not select the candidates.

  • For candidates owning fellowship, GATE fellowship would be equally considered as CSIR/ICMR/DBT/DST/UGC fellowship.

  • The candidates carrying their own fellowship from various funding agencies and the In-service medical faculty of PGI will be exempted from the entrance tests and will appear in the departmental interview only which will declare them either ‘fit’ or ‘unfit’.

Application Process for M.Sc

  • Candidates can find the application forms available on the official website. 

  • Candidates are required to fill all the columns. None of the blanks or fields should be left blank.

  • The candidates are required to fill the Online Application form, upload latest scanned photograph and signature in available space on the Online Application Form.

  • Candidates will be generated with a Challan Form and which they need to deposit at any branch of State Bank of India.

  • The question paper consists of 250 multiple choice questions. 

  • Candidates are required to complete the exam in 3 hours.

  • The questions might have single or multiple correct answers.

  • Candidates will lose marks if he/she chooses the wrong answer.

Exam Pattern for MD/MS / MDS/ House Job

  • The question paper consists of 100 multiple choice questions. 

  • Candidates are required to complete the exam in 90 minutes.

  • The questions might have single or multiple correct answers.

  • Candidates will lose marks if he/she chooses the wrong answer.

Exam Pattern for PhD

Candidates will have to appear in the entrance exam in order to get the admission for Phd program. The maximum marks for the exam is 100. The pattern is as follows:

Exam Pattern for M.Sc. Courses

  • Candidates will have to appear for a written test that contains 50 MCQ.

  • Maximum marks awarded will be 100.

  • There will be negative marking to the tune of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in the theory paper.

  • Minimum qualifying marks are 50%

Exam Pattern for MD (Hospital Administration)

  • The theory exam will consist of a paper with two parts (Part 1 – General, and Part 2 – Specialty), each with 40 marks.

  • Part 1 consists of 40 multiple choice questions of MBBS level, each with four options and a single most appropriate response.

  • Part 2 of the paper will consist of 40 multiple choice questions related to Hospital Administration, each with five options and single/multiple correct response(s). Incorrect responses will, however, be negatively marked in Part 2 and not in Part 1.

  • Duration of the exam is 90 minutes.

PGIMER 2019 Admit Card 

  • Admit Card will be available for download to all the eligible candidates.

  • Candidates can download the admit card/hall ticket approximately in 15 days before the day of the examination.

  • Candidates are required to log in to download the admit card.

  • Login credentials such as Login Id and Password will be required to view and download the admit card.

  • The admit card will contain the roll number of the candidate, date and time of the exam, venue of the exam and other instructions.

Note: Candidates will not receive the admit card or details regarding the roll number through any other means.

Results for MD/MS

  • Candidates who score the higher scores will get the higher ranks in PGIMER (commonly known by the name PGI Chandigarh Entrance Exam 1970). The same criteria applies for PGI Nursing Entrance Exam 1970.

  • In the case of two candidates securing the same score, the rank will be given to the one who is senior in age.

  • A merit list will be prepared for the candidates who have written the examination.

  • The minimum qualifying percentile for the candidates who belong to different categories is tabulated below.

Results for MDS/ House Job

  • Results for MDS/ House Job will be available in the form of a merit list.

  • In addition to the category-wise merit list, a general merit list will also be prepared.

  • A candidate who has obtained higher aggregate marks in BDS examination shall rank higher to a candidate who has obtained lower marks (or) if the aggregate marks obtained in BDS examination are the same, then a candidate senior in age shall rank higher to a candidate who is junior in age.

Counselling for MD/MS/MDS/House Job

  • Candidates who qualify the written exam will have to go through a personal counselling. In order to participate, the candidates will have to fulfill the cutoff points set by the conducting authority.

  • Candidates who are absent on the day of the counselling will not be considered. 

  • Any candidate who does not get the subject of his/her choice in the first and second round of counselling can also attend the third and fourth rounds to get the preferred subject. Candidates will not have to pay any penalty fee.
