  • About: NID Design Aptitude Test (NID DAT) is a National Level Entrance Examination conducted by Nation Institute of Design for admission in various UG and PG Programs.

  • Conducting Body: NID DAT is conducted by National Institute of Design

  • Affiliation: NID is an autonomous institute under the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry and even recognised by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research under the Ministry of Science and Technology by Government of India. 

  • Courses: On successful entrance exam application, NIT DAT offeres admission in Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Diploma courses such as B.Des, M.Des and GDPD.

  • Campuses: National Institute of Design has three campuses around India with Ahmedabad being the main campus, PG campus is in Gandhinagar and R&D campus in Bangalore. 

  • Level: NID DAT is conducted at National Level in 23 centres across India.

NID 2019 Important Dates

  • Registration Date: NID entrance exam application Form is available on the official website from 25th September 2018 and the last date to submit the Application Form will be on 9th November 2018.

  • Admit Card: NID 2019 Admit Cards will be released on the official website from 20th December 2018.

  • Exam Date: NID 2019 will be conducted through offline mode on 6th January 2019.

  • Result: Result will be announced on the official website by NID on 19th March 2019.

NID 2019 Eligibility:

  • Education Qualification: Candidate should have passed 10+2 qualifying examinations in the academic year 2018–19 in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, etc.) from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent.

  • Age Limit: Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years as on 30 June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1999 are eligible to apply for admission.

  • Note: Any candidate who has not passed their final board exam or equivalent before the in-person counselling will not be eligible for admission.

NID 2019 Application Process

  • Application Form Availability: NID 2019 entrance exam Application Form will be available on the official website of the design school from 25th September 2018 till 9th November 2018.

  • Registration Fee For B.Des: Application fee for Indian Nationals General category candidate is Rs.2000 and for Reserved category candidate is Rs.1000. For overseas students the Application fee is Rs. 3000 which can be paid through online and offline mode.

  • Note: Application fees paid online (by Debit/ Credit Card) doesn't include any bank/ transaction charges, the Application fee is NEITHER refundable NOR transferable.

 NID 2019 Admit Card

  • Admit Card Release: NID DAT Prelims Admit Card can be obtained online on the official website from 20th December 2018.

  • Credentials: Candidates are required to provide details like Registered Email ID, Date of Birth and Roll Number/ Application Form Number to download the Admit Card.

  • Exam Centre: The candidates who have registered for the exam must carry their Admit Card to Exam Centre to avoid any kind of discrepancy.

NID 2019 Exam Centres

  • Number of Centres: NID DAT 2019 is conducted in 23 centres spread across India.

  • Change in Exam Centres: Candidate is not allowed to make any changes in the Exam Centre once it has been entered and submitted in the Application Form

  • Stages: The exam will be conducted in 3 stages – DAT, Studio Test and Personal Interview. Candidates will be allotted Exam Centres for each stage.

NID 2019 Exam Pattern

  • Number of Stages: NID DAT 2019 will be conducted in two stages by the authority

    • Stage 1: NID DAT (Prelims) - Pen & Paper-Based Written Test

    • Stage 2: NID DAT (Mains) - Studio Test and Personal Interview.

  • Questions: The exam will comprise of 2 papers. Paper 1 will comprise of 70 marks questions of objective type and Paper 2 will comprise of 30 marks questions of subjective type.

  • Marking System: The MCQs objective type marking scheme will vary from 0.5 marks to 4 marks each with no negative marking. Paper is for a total of 100 marks

  • Duration: The examination will be conducted for a duration of 3 hours i.e. 180 minutes

NID 2019 Syllabus

  • Prelims Syllabus: The syllabus includes some of the topics like Design Theory, Optical Illusion, Picture Analysis, Visual Logic, Elements & Principles of Design, Memory Drawing, etc.

  • Mains Syllabus: The syllabus includes topics like Model Making, Material Manipulation, Doodling, Creative Thinking, etc.

NID 2019 Results

  • Result Date: NID DAT 2019 Result will be declared on the official website by the conducting authority on 19th March 2019 

  • Merit List: A separate merit lists shall be prepared for each category (OPEN, OBC-NCL, SC, ST & PwD).

  • Rank: Higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Part B of the Design Aptitude Test - Prelims

NID 2019 Counselling

  • Counselling Date: Counselling for NID DAT 2019 will commence from 31st May 2019 after declaring the result and final merit list.

  • Allotment of Seats: After the original document verification process, the candidates who have shortlisted in rank list will be allotted with a seat. After payment of fees, the enrolment in the program will be confirmed. 

  • Failed to be Present: Failing to report with the requisite documents as per the schedule will lead to forfeiting the candidate’s seat and their seat will be allotted to next eligible candidate in order of merit.

NID 2019 FAQs

Q: I have a good NATA score, should I write NID entrance test? 
NATA score is not considered for the NID entrance test. All candidates will have to write NID’s Design Aptitude Test (DAT). 

Q: Is there any part time NID course?

No, NID does not offer any part-time courses.

Q: What is the mode and duration of the exam?

NID DAT 2019 will be conducted as Paper and Pen-Based Test i.e. Offline exam and the duration of the exam will be for 3 hours i.e. 180 minutes.

Q: Is it possible to withdraw the application after submission? Would the application fee be refunded?
You cannot withdraw your application once submitted. The Application fee is not refundable. 

Q:  Is the NID Design Aptitude Test the same for overseas applicants as well as Indian applicants?

Q: What is the procedure of admissions?
The admission procedure to NID for M.Des., B.Des. and GDPD programmes consists of two stages.

Stage 1 - Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims 

Stage 2 - Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains 

Q: What is the upper age limit to appear for B.Des?

Upper age limit for general candidates is 20 years, for reserved category (OBC-NCL/ SC/ ST) it is 23 years and for PWD candidates it is 25 years.

Q: Does M.Des. students get a stipend?

NID does not pay any stipend to its students enrolled. 

Q: will I get an acknowledgement slip on submission of my application form?
Yes, you will receive an acknowledgement by email on the email id provided at the time of registration.

Q: Can I apply to NID more than once?
Yes, candidates can appear for NID’s entrance exam any number of times, provided the eligibility criteria of age is fulfilled by the candidate.

Q: Is the foundation programme for B.Des compulsory?

The candidates, who are successfully admitted to the B.Des programmes, will be required to undergo a mandatory foundation course of one-year duration.

NID 2019 Eligibility

Eligibility Summary of NID 2019:

  • To apply for NID undergraduate courses the candidate must be 20 years of age, whereas 3 years age relaxation is provided for SC/ST and OBC candidates, and for PWD candidates it is 25 years. The age limit for postgraduate aspiring candidates is 30 years with provided age relaxation to 35 years for SC/ ST/OBC and physically handicapped candidates.

  • Educational Qualification: To apply for NID undergraduate courses, the candidate should have completed 10+2 with education marks sheet. For applying to postgraduate courses, the candidate should have completed 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 fashion degree to be eligible to take up this exam. Graduates are also eligible to appear for NID examination.
