NEET 2019 Eligibility Overview

Between 17 to 25 years of age. SC/ ST/ OBC :- 5 years of relaxation.
Passed 12th examination with PCB as mandatory subjects. General:- 50% aggregate General PH:- 45% aggregate; SC/ ST/ OBC :- 40% aggregate.
Seats reserved for: SC:- 15%, ST:- 7.5%, Non-creamy layer OBC:- 27%, Physically Handicapped:- 3%.
Candidates from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Jammu & Kashmir are not eligible for 15% All India Quota Seats.

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2019 

NEET 2019 Eligibility Criteria:

  • The eligibility for NEET 2019 is prescribed by the National Testing Exam(NTA).

  • The candidate should fulfill the NEET 2019 eligibility criteria in order to qualify for the examination.

NEET 2019 Eligibility can be divided into the following categories: 

  • Nationality: The candidate appearing for NEET 2019 must be an Indian national. 

  • Age: The candidate must be at least 17 years old and not older than 25 years as on 31st December 2018. However, SC, ST, OBC, PH candidates get 5 years age relaxation. 

  • Educational Qualification: All candidates appearing for NEET 2019 must score a minimum percentage (discussed below) of marks for the subject combination: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in their 10+2 or any other equivalent examination conducted by a recognized board/university.

  • No. of Attempts: A candidate can appear for the NEET-UG conducted by NTA any number of times. There are no limitations to the number of attempts.

  • Aadhar Card: The candidate must be an Aadhar card holder. 

NEET 2019 Eligibility Criteria based on Nationality:

All of the categories mentioned below are eligible for appearing in NEET 2019:

  • Indian Residents (Aadhaar card is must identity proof for all Indian candidates)

  • Non-Resident Indians (NRIs)

  • Overseas citizens(OCIs)

  • Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)

  • Foreign National

NEET 2019 Eligibility based on Age: 

  • Age Limitation: The age of the candidates appearing for NEET-UG 2019 should be minimum 17 years either at the time of admission or before 31st of December of the year the candidate will be admitted to the first year of MBBS/BDS programme. 

  • Maximum Age: The aspirant's age should not exceed 25 years from the date of admission.

  • Relaxation for Reserved Category: Relaxation of 5 years in upper age limit would be provided to the candidates belonging to the reserved categories.

NEET 2019 Eligibility based on Educational Qualification:

  • Minimum Qualification: Candidates must have passed their 10+2 or any equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% aggregate of marks to be eligible for NEET 2019. SC/ST/OBC candidates need to have obtained minimum 40%. PH candidates must have minimum 45%. 

  • The subject combination in 10+2: The candidate must have studied a curriculum in 10+2 which included Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as compulsory subjects. 

  • Minimum marks in the qualifying exam: All candidates appearing for NEET 2019 must score a minimum percentage of marks for the subject combination: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. For different categories, it is as follows:




50% in PCB

General PH

45% in PCB


40% in PCB

NEET 2019 Eligibility based on No. of Attempts:

  • National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination (NEET)-UG conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) provides relaxation to the number of attempts, unlike the previous years. A student can appear as many numbers of times. There is no restriction to the number of attempts.

NEET 2019 Eligibility for State Quota:

  • Aspirants who are an Indian Resident, Non-Resident Indian (NRI), Overseas Citizen (OCI), Person of Indian Origin (PIO) are eligible for admission in Medical/Dental Colleges in India which is subjected to rules and regulations framed by the respective State Governments, Institution and the Government of India.

  • The aspirants who are Foreign nationals are advised to confirm their eligibility from the concerned Medical/Dental college/state.

NEET 2019 Eligibility for 15% All India Quota Seats in NEET 2019:

Following are the eligible categories for NEET 2019 15% All India Quota Seats. 

  • Indian Nationals

  • Non-Resident Indians (NRIs)

  • Overseas Citizen of India (OCIs)

  • Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)

  • Foreign Nationals are eligible for 15% NEET 2019 All India Quota Seats. 

  • Aspirants from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are now eligible for the 15% All India Quota seats.

  • Candidates from J & K state are eligible for 15% All India Quota seats only on the basis of self-declaration. 

  • If the aspirant claims for any eligibility, then they must submit online Self Declaration which will be generated and printed automatically along with confirmation page for the record and to present during counselling.

Following are the reservation criteria for NEET 2019 in 15% All India Quota Seats:

  • SC Candidates: 15% seats are reserved for SC candidates,

  • ST Candidates: 7.5% seats are reserved for ST candidates,

  • OBC Candidates: 27% seats as per Central Act are reserved for non-creamy layer OBC candidates only in Central Educational Institutions. Candidates of OBC creamy layer must mention as an Unreserved category. 

  • PH Candidates: 3% seats are reserved on horizontal basis for Physically Handicapped candidates.

The inter-state-merit of candidates for tie-breaking:

In the case of two or more candidates obtaining equal marks in the NEET 2019, the inter-state-merit of such candidates shall be determined in order of preference as follows:

  • Candidates obtaining higher marks in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the test.

  • Candidates obtaining higher marks in Chemistry in the test.

  • Candidates with less number of the wrong answer attempts in all the subjects in the test.

  • Candidates older in age will be given preference.

You won't be allowed to give the exam in 2018 as the minimum age should be between 17-25 years. For more information click here.
