Introduction to GATE 2019:

About:

  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), it is a national level examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and 7 IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Guwahati, and Roorkee) on a rotational basis in several centers all across India.

  • GATE exam 2019 is going to be conducted by IIT Madras.

Background:

  • GATE is one of the most competitive examinations in India.

  • The GATE score is used for admissions to various post-graduate education programs (e.g. Master of Engineering (ME), Master of Technology (M.Tech), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Indian higher education institutes, with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other government agencies.

  • GATE scores are also being used by several Indian public sector undertakings (i.e., government-owned companies) for recruiting graduate engineers in entry-level positions.

  • GATE entrance exam is also recognized by various Institutes outside India, such as Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

Courses Offered:

  • A valid GATE score is essential for securing financial assistance during postgraduate programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture and Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Science in Institutes supported by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) or other Government agencies.

Participating Colleges: 

  • Nearly 900 Indian colleges (IITs, NITs & other govt. funded institutions) offer post-graduate education and accept GATE score for admitting candidates to the above-mentioned programmes. 

  • The GATE score is also used by the Public Sector Indian Companies for recruiting engineers for their organizations.

Eligibility: 

  • Candidates who hold a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering / Technology / Architecture (4 years after 10+2/ Post-B.Sc./ Post-Diploma) and those who are in the final year of such programs are eligible to take up GATE 2019.

  • Master’s Degree holders in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programs are also eligible for the same.

Score Validity: The GATE score of a candidate reflects his/ her relative performance level. It is valid for a period of 3 years.

GATE 2019 Latest News:

  • GATE 2019 Registration 

    • Registrations for the GATE 2019 was closed on 3rd October 2018.

    • Candidates can visit the GATE GOAPS official website, i.e. gate.iitm.ac.in/ to start the process of registration.

    • Candidates can submit applications only once. Any duplicate of applications seen will be truncated.

    • No chance of changes that can be made after the submission of application form

  • Attempt: A candidate can attempt for only one subject/ paper in any one session.

  • Syllabus: Statistics is a new subject that has been included in the syllabus from GATE 2019.

  • Last date to apply: GATE registration portal has been closed on 3rd October 2018.

  • Exam Centers: Candidates who have applied for the GATE 2019 would be able to choose three cities from the list of exam centres.

GATE 2019 Eligibility:

  • Qualification: Candidates who hold a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering / Technology / Architecture (4 years after 10+2/ Post-B.Sc/ Post-Diploma) are eligible to apply.

  • M.Tech Qualification: M.Tech admission through GATE exam score may vary as per the participating Institute.

  • Attempts: There is no limit on the number of attempts to appear or apply for the exam.

  • Age limit: There is no stipulated age limit defined in order to take up the exam.

GATE 2019 Application:

  • Registration Date: GATE exam registration 2019 was started on 1st September 2018 and ended on 3rd October 2018.

  • Payment: Candidates must submit the application form online by paying the GATE exam fees only through electronic transfer. The application fee is neither refundable nor transferable.

  • Application Fee: Application fee for Male Candidates /General/OBC is INR 1500 and Application fee for Female Candidates/SC/ ST/ PWD Category Candidates it is INR 750
  • Application Form Correction: After the submission of the form, it goes under scrutiny where the authority will check and inform the candidates about the mistakes for the rectification. An additional GATE exam fees will be applicable for changing the details in the application form.

GATE 2019 Exam Pattern:

  • Mode of Exam: The GATE entrance exam 2019 will be conducted as an online computer based test (CBT) for a duration of 3 hours.

  • Marks Distribution: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions carrying 1 or 2 marks each in all the papers and sections.

  • Questions & Marks: The total number of questions will be 65 which forms a total of 100 marks.

  • Negative Marking: Negative marking will be applicable in the examination.

GATE 2019 Admit Card:

  • Availability: Candidates have to visit GATE Official website (GOAPS) to download a copy of their Admit Card on 4th January 2019. 

  • ID Proof: It is important to carry an original ID proof with admit card to the exam centre on the day of the exam.

  • Discrepancy: Any discrepancy in the admit card must be reported to the concerned authorities and rectified.

GATE 2019 Syllabus:

  • Release Authority: GATE examination Syllabus for 2019 will be released by IIT Madras for all the 24 papers.

GATE 2019 Guidelines:

  • Candidates appearing for GATE 2019 examination must carry admit card and original valid photo-identity proof inside the examination hall.

GATE 2019

  • Scribble pads will be provided to the candidates in the examination hall by the invigilators. The same should be used for all rough work. Candidate should write their name and registration number on the scribble pads. The scribble pads must be returned to the invigilators after the end of the examination.

  • Carrying of any other electronic devices that can be used for communication or for any other purpose, and printed or hand-written textual materials, inside the examination hall is prohibited.

Q: Is there any age limit to apply for GATE 2019?

There is no age limit to apply for GATE exam.

Q: Can B.Sc graduates apply for GATE Exam 2019?

Candidates should have a four-year degree to apply for the entrance exam.

Q: What is GATE exam? 

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is a national level entrance for admission to postgraduate engineering courses. GATE scores are also being used by several Indian public sector undertakings i.e., government-owned organisations for recruiting graduate engineers in entry-level positions. The government of India also provides the scholarship to GATE qualified candidates.

Q: What is the minimum percentage criteria to apply for GATE 2019?

There are no specific percentage criteria. Some IITs and PSUs ask for 60% and above. While some institutes allow candidates with a second class in their graduation to apply for M.Tech provided they have valid GATE scores.

Candidates can change the name, date of birth, name of parent/ guardian, qualifying degree, year of the qualifying degree. The correction can be done after logging into GOAPS account by entering enrollment Id and password. 

Q: How can I obtain the scorecard of GATE 2019?

Candidates can download the scorecard of GATE through GOAPS from 20th March till May 31, 2019. Enrollment ID or email address and GOAPS password should be used to view the scorecard.

GATE 2019 Exam Important Dates Summary:

  • Application Form Important Date: The application for the GATE 2019 would be available starting from 1st September 2018.Candidates can fill the GATE 2019 application form till 3rd October 2018.

  • Admit Card for GATE 2019 Date: The GATE 2019 Admit Card would be available starting from 4th January 2019.

  • GATE 2019  Examination Important Dates: The Gate 2019 examination would commence from 2nd February 2019 and would go on until 10th February 2019.
