CLAT Overview

CLAT 2019 Introduction

  • About: Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a test that provides the students to get admission in the 19 National Law Universities in India for courses such as LLB and LLM.

  • Level: The examination is National Level which provides the students to get admission in government and private law colleges in the country.

  • Conducting Body: CLAT 2019 will be conducted by National Law University (NLU) Odisha, Cuttack.

  • Frequency: The examination is conducted once in every academic year.

  • Mode: The Common Law Admission Test is conducted through online mode i.e. Computer Based Test (CBT).

  • Qualification: Candidates who have cleared their 12th are allowed to appear for CLAT.

  • Admissions: CLAT 2019 scores help candidates to get admission in courses such as BA LLB (Hons), B.Com LLB (Hons), B.Sc LLB (Hons), BBA LLB (Hons), BSW LLB (Hons) and LLM programmes that are offered by various National Law Universities.

  • Attempts: There are no restrictions on the number of attempts for CLAT.

CLAT 2019 Important Dates

  • Application Form Date: Candidates can register for CLAT 2019 from 1st January 2019 and the last date to submit is on 31st March 2019

  • Admit Card: The admit card will be issued by the conducting authority on the official website on 22nd April 2019

  • Exam Date: CLAT 2019 will commence on 12th May 2019.

CLAT 2019 Eligibility

  • Upper Age Limit: There is no upper age limit to apply for CLAT 2019 

  • Minimum Qualification: The candidates should have scored minimum 45% in Class XII, and in the case of ST/SC the minimum mark should be 40%

  • Final Year: Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination in April/ May 2019 are also eligible to appear in the exam.

CLAT 2019 Application Form

  • Application Form: CLAT 2019 application forms will be available from 1st January 2019 till 31st March 2019.

  • Registration fee: For General/ OBC/ SAP and other category candidates application fees will be Rs.4,000/- and for SC/ST category candidates the fees will be Rs.3,500/- 

  • Documents: Candidates has to upload the scanned copy of passport size photograph and signature in the application form.

CLAT 2019 Exam Pattern

  • Mode of Exam: CLAT 2019 is conducted through online mode i.e. Computer Based Test (CBT).

  • Total No. of Questions: The UG candidates will have to answer 200 questions whereas, PG candidates will be answering 150 questions.

  • Duration: The candidates will be having a duration of 2 hours to complete CLAT.

  • Marking Scheme: 1 mark is awarded for each correct response. There is negative marking of 0.25 marks for an incorrect response.

CLAT 2019 Admit Card

  • Availability: The admit card will be available on the official website from 22nd April 2019.

  • Login Credentials: Enter your CLAT 2019 login credentials i.e. Registration No. and Password to access CLAT Admit Card.

  • Valid Proof: Candidate should carry a valid photo ID proof (Aadhar Card/ Voter ID/ Passport/ Driving license) along with the Admit Card to the examination centre.

CLAT 2019 Exam Centres

  • Exam Cities: CLAT 2019 will be conducted in 66 cities across the country.

  • Preference: Candidates can choose a maximum of three cities as the prefered Exam Centres while filling the Application Form.

  • ID Proof: It is mandatory to carry a valid Photo ID Proof along with the hall ticket to the CLAT Exam Center.

CLAT 2019 Syllabus

  • Subjects: CLAT 2019 Syllabus includes topics such as English, Logical Reasoning, General Knowledge & Current Affairs, Elementary Mathematics, Legal Aptitude.

  • Syllabus: The Syllabus for all the undergraduate and postgraduate programs differs from each other.

  • Difficulty: Questions in CLAT are framed from the subjects studied in the Higher Secondary Level and Bachelor's Program. The level of questions will be usually moderate to difficult.


CLAT 2019 Results

  • Result Announcement: CLAT 2019 Results will be announced on 31st May 2019.

  • Credentials: Login ID and Password will serve as the credentials to check and download the results once it has been published.

  • Scorecard: The result will be released in the form of scorecard, having details such as Roll Number, Category, Score, Ranks, and Qualifying Status.

  • Authority: Admissions will be undertaken by the RGNUL (Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law) after the CLAT 2019 Results are declared.


CLAT 2019 Counselling

  • Counselling: After the declaration of results, candidates need to take part in Centralised Counselling conducted by CLAT authorities which will be held on 7th June 2019.

  • Counselling Rounds: As per previous year trends, there will be a minimum of 3 rounds of Counselling.

  • Seat Allotment: The seat allotment will be done on a merit-cum-preference basis. This means that the admissions are done on the basis of CLAT 2019 score/ rank along with the college preference mentioned by a candidate in their Application Form.

  • Counselling Fees: Candidates must deposit INR 50,000 for securing allotted seat during the admission procedure.

CLAT 2019 Important Instructions

  • Information regarding the details of intake, reservation policies and the courses offered along with the fee structures of various participating National Law Universities is available in the Information Brochure which can be accessed from the official website of CLAT and also from the websites of the participating NLUs.

  • The candidates are, therefore, advised to thoroughly go through the rules, policies and the fee structure of the participating NLUs before filling in the application form for UG as well as PG courses, and also for the NRI/ NRI Sponsored and Foreign National seats.

  • Information provided in the e-Brochure regarding the intake, reservation policy, fee, courses offered and the subjects taught at various levels including the areas of specialization, etc., has been specified very briefly.

  • For detailed information regarding the same, the candidates may refer to the information available at the websites of the participating NLUs.

  • In the event of unforeseen incidents resulting in the cancellation of a Test city or centre, or insufficient or extra number of candidates opting to appear from a particular Test Centre, the Convenor, CLAT reserves the right to cancel such a City/ Centre and shift the applicant to an another City/ Centre.

  • In order to claim the benefit of reservation, the candidate must produce the relevant certificates as prescribed by the Government of India/ State Government and as required by the respective NLU at the time of admission, as notified by them.

  • The CLAT 2019 Application Fee is non-refundable and non-adjustable.

  • Participating National Law Universities reserve the right to change the total number of seats and break-up of seats as per their policy before the final allotment. The reservation policy is subject to change as decided by the concerned Government from time to time.

  • If a candidate has filled-in more than one online Application Form, the candidate's last online application form only will be considered. In such cases, the application fee for the previous application forms will not be refunded.

  • The allotment of seats and the offer for admission under CLAT 2019 shall be provisional and shall not create any right of admission in favour of a candidate.
