NEST Eligibility

The NEST entrance exam provides the gateway for candidates seeking admissions into the integrated M.Sc courses in the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), and University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM- DAE CBS). Candidates must meet the following required criteria to be eligible for NEST:

  • Educational Qualification: Pass Class 12 board exams or an equivalent in the science stream for the years 2018 or 2019, or appeared in a 2020 Class 12 exam from any recognised higher secondary board in India.
  • Marks Criteria: A minimum of 60% aggregate in 10+2 board exams. For SC/ST/Divangjan candidates, the minimum aggregate is 55%
  • Age Limit: Candidates should be born on or after August 1, 2000. SC/ST/Divangjan candidates get an age relaxation of 5 years
  • Merit List: Candidates must secure a position in the NEST merit list
  • Subjects Criteria: Candidates should have studied science in Classes 11 and 12, with a combination of Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
