About AILET 2019

  • About: AILET 2019 is the All India Law Entrance Test conducted in the month of May by the National Law University, Delhi. The seats are allocated on merit basis for admissions to both undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes. It offers a five-year integrated law programme B.A. LLB. NLU offers admissions for five-year integrated law programme, L.L.M and Ph.D.  

  • Level: AILET 2019 is a national level entrance examination for studying law at NLU, Delhi. It is an offline exam which is conducted in 21 cities of India. The questions will be in English medium.

  • Conducting Authority: The AILET 2019 examination is organized for students seeking admission in Delhi University and its affiliated institutions for various undergraduate and postgraduate courses (B.A.LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M, Ph.D. programs, PG Diploma).

  • Requirements: The candidates will need to have an LLB or LLM Degree for LLM and Ph.D. courses respectively. Students applying for LLB course need to pass their Class XII/PUC equivalent examination with at least 50% aggregate score from recognised university. Candidates aiming for LLM programme at NLU Delhi will have to qualify LLB degree or equivalent with at least 55 percent aggregate marks in the LLB subjects.

  • Registration: By filling the application form on the official website the interested candidates can apply for AILET 2019.

  • Dates: The AILET dates are tentative and susceptible to changes as per the official notification by the conducting body.

  • Admit Card: Admit card will be available on the official website from 12th April 2019. 

  • Exam Date: AILET 2019 will be conducted for all the candidates registered online on 3rd May 2019. Candidates can refer AILET 2019 important dates for updatesThe Exam centers are available in 21 cities of India for candidates to write the exam, which can be chosen based on their preference.

AILET 2019 Eligibility Criteria

  • Qualification: Depending on the reservation for category or according to the general merit cut-off, the candidate needs to have scored 50% of aggregate marks in the 10+2 qualifying examination for LLB, in the LLB qualification exam to apply for LLM and similarly in the LLM examination to apply for P.h.D.

  • Scoring: Candidates need to have scored at least 50 percent marks in 10+2 to seek admission for five-year integrated law programme. To aim for admission into LLM programme at NLU Delhi, the candidates need to have scored at least 55 percent marks in aggregate of the subjects in the LLB paper to qualify for LLB degree or equivalent.

  • AILET 2019 Eligibility Criteria to be reviewed carefully by the candidate before filling the application form, so as to avoid the risk of application form getting rejected during admission process. 

  • Age Limit: Candidates above 18 years of age are eligible for AILET 2019. 

AILET 2019 Syllabus

  • Subjects: The AILET 2019 Syllabus are:

    • Syllabus for LLB are English including comprehension, elementary mathematics, general knowledge and current affairs, legal aptitude, and logical reasoning.

    • Syllabus for LLM are Law of Contracts, Law of Torts, legal theory, criminal and constitutional law


  • Difficulty level: Being a national level examination, its level of difficulty is comparable with other national level examinations.

AILET 2019 Exam Pattern

  • Marking Scheme and Mode: For every right answer, the candidate will be awarded 1 mark and a deduction of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer. It is an offline pen and paper-based.

  • Candidates need to go through marking scheme and AILET 2019 exam pattern for examination.

  • Questions: AILET BA LLB syllabus is for a total of 150 questions, and marks are allocated as delineated in the table.

  • Duration: The AILET exam duration is for 1 hour 30 minutes.

AILET 2019 Application Form

  • Application Dates: The aspirants can fill the application form online from 4th January 2019 with the last date for submission being 5th April 2019.
  • Application Fee: AILET 2019 application process includes fee payment that can be made using Credit Card/Debit Card, Net Banking/UPI or E-wallet of Common Services Centre and other service providers. Offline fee payment can be done through post office or sending bank challan or DD from the listed bank with duly filled copy of the application form.

    • General and OBC/Kashmiri Migrant/Foreign National: Application fee for AILET 2019 General and OBC category candidates are Rs.3050

    • Reserved/PwD/and SC/ST above poverty line: AILET 2019 Application fee for (SC/ST/PH) candidates are Rs.1050

    • SC/ST falling below poverty line: Exempted from paying AILET application fee.

AILET 2019 Exam Centres

  • Shortlist: The candidates will be eligible to attend the counselling session based on the marks obtained in the written exam and the attained cut-off ranking. 
  • Allotment: The AILET 2019 Exam Centres Location will be allotted to candidates based on his/her preference.

  • Results: The AILET Results and Dates will be announced on the official website by 5th July 2019.

  • Break-up of the seats selected as per category. A total of 73 candidates will be selected through counselling as in below table.

Tie-break scenario for two or more candidates who have secured same marks are

  • Candidates are qualified based on the higher marks scored in (10+2) /Higher Secondary School or its equivalent as recognised by the University.

  • If still, the tie remains, then the candidate who has scored more in Class X is ranked higher.

  • If still, the tie continues, then based on age the candidates are ranked higher.

AILET 2019 Eligibility Summary

  • B.A/LLB: The eligibility to apply for B.A-LL.B. (Hons.) course the candidates need to have graduated from Class XII/PUC or equivalent examination with a scoring of minimum 50% aggregate so as to satisfy AILET 2019 eligibility.

  • LLM: The eligibility to apply for LL.M. (One year) program and PG Diploma program, the candidates need to have completed LL.B. or an Equivalent Law Degree with a score of minimum 55% aggregate marks (for general candidates) and minimum 50% marks for SC, ST or PWD candidates for eligibility.

  • Note: The candidates who are yet to attend their final year exams for the respective year are also deemed eligible to apply for AILET 2019.

  • Age: Candidates should not have exceeded 21 years of age as on or after 1 July, 2019 (23 years in case of SC/ST category) for B.A-LL.B. (Hons.) program.
