The National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysore was established in 1946. It is one of the oldest private colleges for engineering and was granted autonomy by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in 2007. It owes its existence particularly to three eminent figures among sixteen namely, Sri S.Ramaswamy, Sri D.V.Narasimha Rao, and Sri T. Rama Rao. The college ranks between 101 to 150 in the list of top Indian engineering colleges as published by the NIRF-MHRD in April 2017.

NIE Admission is conducted for its undergraduate BE programme through CET, COMEDK and management quota, subject to AICTE and Karnataka govt directives.
