CLUBS & ASSOCIATIONS
10/10
  • There are a lot of clubs on campus. Lit club, Robotics club, Quiz club, chess club, coding club (very popular because of ICPC results year after year) etc.
  • Main events are - Felicity (main fest), Felicity Buzz (mini fest for freshers), Freshers Celebration, Freshers Party, House party, November Jam etc. Inter house tournaments are held, inter collegiate tournaments are also held in campus for different sports. Tech - R&D showcase. Full Research showcase for all research centers.
  • Life in college is pretty hectic if you're serious - assignments will drag you down and eat your time. You can go out and come in campus at any time, but 85% attendance and assignments will force you to stay in campus most of the time. What if you miss classes? Less than 85% attendance means grade drops.

INFRASTRUCTURE & TRANSPORTATION
10/10
  • 4 hostels are there - UG Boys, UG Girls, PG Boys, PG Girls. Hostel and mess fees are around Rs 60k per year (to be paid in advance).
  • One has to stay on campus, can't opt for outside accommodation unless prescribed by doctor.
  • Food is good, 4 messes - North, South, Mixed, and Yuktahar(jain food). Average breakfast - 25 rupees, 40 for lunch and dinner. -

PLACEMENTS & ALUMNI NETWORK
10/10
  • One can become a teaching assistant for a course during a semester to earn Rs 4k-9k per month as stipend. Apart from that, internships during winter (20 days) and summer (3 months) are allowed. - IIIT is known for GSoC. Highest number of students get GSoC from this institute.
  • Major IT companies like Facebook, Google, Microsoft etc hire from the campus.
  • Average salary is Rs 14 LPA, with highest going Rs 1 crore LPA and 250k USD pa offshore. Some even get PPO, which doesn't get disclosed. Everyone gets placed.
  • Alumni network is presently not very strong, given the institute has been around since 1990s and not much time has elapsed. But it's still good, given they had a reunion at Silicon Valley in US.

FEES AND SCHOLARSHIP
8/10
  • Fees is bit on the higher side. Tution fees Rs 2 Lakhs per year, plus Rs 60k for mess and hostel fees.
  • Scholarships - State and other ones. Nothing from institute.
  • But it has a loan model from alumni's network, which you can repay after you're done with your course (opt for this if you have trouble getting a loan). One can get stipend of Rs 4k-9k per month if he/she becomes a TA for a course. Loans might be needed given the fees are on the higher side. Andhra Bank, IDBI, SBH, etc. all have tie ups, and provide loans easily.

HOSTELS & FOOD
9/10
  • Housing: There are various hostels for boys and girls at IIIT. The first and second year undergrads live in Double - Occupancy rooms while from the third year onwards students are awarded individual rooms. The rooms are extremely spacious and kept very clean by the housekeeping staff. There are common bathrooms on every floor that have a hot and cold water supply 24*7 all days of the year. The rooms are also equipped with high-speed internet connections (Second year onwards).
  • Food: The mess facilities at IIIT are remarkable. IIIT house for messes, which serve: North Indian, South Indian, North & Sound Indian, and vegan cuisine. There is also a canteen present on campus which is open until late in the night that offers students food and drinks after a long hectic day of work. The messes are managed and kept well. All but one serve 100% veg food.

INFRASTRUCTURE & TRANSPORTATION
8/10
  • Infrastructure: International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad is spread over an area of 70 acres and is a plush green campus. It has world class research centers for research in fields such as linguistics, humanities, natural sciences, etc. Because the college only has about 1500 students, the space per student ratio is a big one.
  • The quality of classrooms at IIIT are also state of the art.

PLACEMENTS & ALUMNI NETWORK
10/10
  • Placements: This is where International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad beats all its competitor's hands-down. Students here enjoy the best job opportunities in India and abroad. Also, the strong programming culture here makes the students of IIIT-H the hot favorites in the market.
For IITs, I would say that they definitely have a big brand name thanks to the generous funds given to each of IITs by the government and their illustrious alumni network. IITs manage to get some really talented students who are capable enough of achieving anything without any external help. But IMHO, IITs also have a good course structure for computer science and some really good professors, though they are slightly less focused on core CS courses than IIIT-H.
  • Internships: Almost every student at IIIT-H has entered at least once during the duration of his college period. Students get internship offers at the end of 3rd and 4th year from giant companies like Google, Microsoft, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.

FEES AND SCHOLARSHIP
8/10
  • On this front, International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad is a little costlier than the other government colleges like the IITs and the NITs.
  • One Semester tuition Fee for B.Tech Computer Science Engineering is around: 1,00,000 /- ( 1 Lakh), Housing and Mess Fee for one semester: 40,000 /-
  • Bank loans are easily available for students in need.
  • The college offers financial scholarship to students who may not be able to pay for themselves.

FOREIGN EXCHANGE & INTERNATIONAL EXPOSURE
8/10
  • A major portion of the students of International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad spend their summers in universities and countries across the Globe as a part of internships.

ACADEMICS & FACULTY
10/10

Academics: International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, since the very beginning, has its focus on IT education. So right from the first semester itself, we are made to study the core CS courses, unlike other colleges which have general topics being taught in the first two semesters. Apart from the CS and electronics courses, we have Human Values, PT, and Arts for all-round development of the students. We have a strong programming culture here, which is inculcated in the students right from the first semester. All our Computer Programming assignments are based have to be uploaded on a portal and is evaluated by an Online Judge. This makes us comfortable with the competition-level coding from the very beginning.

Faculty: IIIT-H has one of the best faculty for Computer Science in the country. All our professors have PhDs from top-rated institutions around the world.  Prof. Kannan Srinathan, Prof. P J  Narayanan, and Prof. B Yegnanarayana are quite popular names in the field of Computer Science education.
Undergraduate students are also given opportunities to get involved in teaching at IIIT-H. Every course has Teaching Assistants, who are senior students who have already taken that course and have done well in it.

SOCIAL ATMOSPHERE
8/10
  • Now that’s where you see cultural diversity of the nation, people from all over the country make it here to IIIT-H.
  • But the good thing here is that absolutely everyone gets admission based on merit, and there are no reservations of any kind. Till now they were based on AIEEE cutoffs, but now would be on JEE-Main marks.
  • Also at PG level, IIIT has a separate entrance test, which screens out only the best talent from all the applicants so you can expect a certain level of geekiness in the students as all are very focused and basically interested in research.
  • Even the interview is conducted keeping in mind the research one must pursue here.
  • Also, the subjects, syllabus and learning methodology are followed as per Stanford University standards, and exposure to the topic under a subject is wide.
  • Many even continue their research even after they have been placed, or go on to do their M.Tech here itself.

HOSTELS & FOOD
8/10
  • Well about the hostels, they are at par with the academic infrastructure setup here at IIIT.
  • 2 hostel blocks for girls and boys each, of which 1 is brand new. For the first and second year, the rooms are shared by two and later years, there’s a room for everyone.
  • The mess system is pretty cool, with north and south Indian messes, which sensitively understands the needs and tastes of people from all over the country.
  • There’s also a combined mess and in all, there are 4 messes, which serve tasty and nutritious food. Again the managing of the messes utilises a self-developed IT portal where you can set your default mess, and based on a weekly menu change preferences before the meals.
  • All the canteens are equally popular with students. Not very critical, yet worth a mention is that there are no power cuts on the campus anytime, and other hostel facilities like hot water and security are all correctly in place.

PLACEMENTS & ALUMNI NETWORK
10/10
  • When you’ve worked so hard for the 4 years and learned technology, every single student deserves a good job in the industry. IIIT-H doesn’t fail to impress even here.
  • The jobs at IIIT-H are exceptional and being situated in the IT district adds up as an advantage. Most placements are product based and Undergrad-Postgrad-and MS placements are common and conducted together.
  • Students tell us that about 100 companies registered last year, and recorded over 100% placements last year. Which means everyone got at least one job. Facebook and Google also recruited some students from IIIT.
  • Placements can be considered at par with IITs and the minimum package was Rs 6 lakh. But here the concept of mass recruiting isn’t seen, as most companies come with specific requirements and hire about 4-5 students. Facebook offered jobs in the US last year.

ACADEMICS & FACULTY
8/10
  • Absolutely top notch talent and highly experience faculties from various IITs and IISCs impart their knowledge to students here.
  • The main focus of the institute is primarily on research which the faculties conduct and involve the students in their work too.
  • All the faculties are highly qualified in their field, and what most students told stupid side was that they never spoon feed the students because every semester students are assigned projects for which the faculty only ‘guides’ them.
  • Yet some of the newer faculty hasn’t been able to impress the students. All the professors are approachable and are available all throughout the day on the campus.
  • Apart from learning from the professors, IT Giants from the industry visit the campus regularly for project and paper presentation, so that implies more practical exposure to students.
