Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering), batch of 2016
Societies & Associations 9/10
  • IIT Mandi has got all kind of clubs and societies be it technical or cultural. Just to name a few Website and Networks Group, Robotics Club, Energy Club on technical side, Dramatics Section, Music club, Dance section on cultural side and Photography and Art Geeks club and Literay Section, students get all kind of exposure they can think of in the field they are interested in.
  • Exodia, the annual tech-cult festival is the main festival on campus, followed by Rann-Neeti, the annual sports festival and many other Intra-college festivals keep happening from time to time.
  • To anyone you ask on campus on how's life at IIT Mandi, you'll get unanimous answer, "Awesome". I guess that describes it all.
College Infrastructure 8/10
  • Each hostel has got a common room with almost every facility one can think of, TT tables, microwave, TV, etc. Currently more than 10 hostels are being used for the accommodation with 2 messes functioning. Hostels being built with updated technology and most luxurious facilities are one of the best parts of the campus.
  • Food is quite decent with daily diet costing only INR 98.
  • Classrooms are equipped with high-class equipments and provide an excellent experience. With top-notch labs of every field that is required and a well-maintained students get all kind of exposure that they need. The campus of IIT Mandi located amongst one of the most beautiful places in Hiamchal just on the banks of the river Uhl, is one of a kind.
Placements & Internships 9/10
  • Talking of my internship experience, I did my internship as Software Development Engineer Intern in a company in Hyderabad with a monthly stipend of 14,000 INR.
  • Coming to the most important section, Placements and Internships, IIT Mandi provides you with a secure future after you bachelors. Majority of the big and famed companies visit the campus for placements and internhship opportunities. From Flipkart, Ebay, Microsoft for Computer Science students, HPCL, L&T, Tata Motors, Tejas Networks and many others for Electrical and Mechanical Engineering departments.
  • Average salary goes as high as Rs 10-12 lakhs per annum for around 80-85% of the batch getting placed.
  • It's too early to talk our alumini network as ours is a new college, but whatever seniors we have, have marked their presence in almost every big firm and university when it comes to research and related fields.
Fees and Scholarship 10/10
  • IIT Mandi comes under MHRD department of our country and hence the education is subsidized for the most part. The students need to pay around 1,60,000 INR per year to cover their whole expense here, hostels and mess expenses included.
  • Scholarships are provided to students depending on their family's annual income and many students avail this option and are facilitated by it.
  • Around 40% of the students are able to avail this facility.
  • And if any kind of loans are required, banks like SBI, PNB and many others are more than happy to do so.
Academics & Faculty 9/10
  • IIT Mandi is one of the finest colleges in India when it comes to academics. It being an IIT is already a part of an elite group of institutions. Talking of faculty here, they need to have a Ph.D at least to be recruited here and they follow an interactive method of teaching to help the students throught the process. The classes are generally timed between 8AM and 5PM with weekly assignments and exams thrice a semester. All major courses have a project associated with them that the students need to finish by the end of the semester. Students are given the freedom to choose majority of the courses according to their interests and many students opt for a semester exchange in other universities too, in Germany, Sweden and Denmark majorly as the college provides a chance for the same. Apart from B.Tech, IIT Mandi has M.Tech, M.S, M.Sc, and Ph.D as other domains for the students.
  • Overall I would say that this is a fine institute to come to and have your academic future taken care of.

Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering), batch of 2017
Societies & Associations 8/10
  • All the clubs inside Indian Institute of Technology, [IIT] Mandi are managed by the students and faculties combined. Each club has one or more student co-ordinator and one or more faculty co-ordinators. There are several clubs, such as, Poetry Club, Art Geeks Club, Programming Club, Robotics Club, Electronics Club and many more.
  • Several festivals, such as tech-cult and sports fests take place inside the campus.
  • The college life is quite good, there are not a lot of people like in big colleges, and it's the best place to enjoy nature in its purest form.
College Infrastructure 7/10
  • There are almost 14 hostels at Indian Institute of Technology, [IIT] Mandi. Most of them provide quite a good living condition and are properly ventilated, maintaining a cool atmosphere inside the rooms. Hostel and Mess fee combines is 18,500 INR per semester.
  • Since, IIT Mandi is situated in a remote place, their is no option of PGs outside college.
  • The food mess in the college is average. However, all sorts of foods, ranging from south Indian to north Indian are cooked, the food quality is not up to the mark.
  • Classrooms, Labs, Libaries are well equipped. The internet speed averages to about 3 mbps, viz quite good.
Placements & Internships 7/10
  • The Placement Scenario at Indian Institute of Technology, [IIT] Mandi is quite good for CSE students, but it's very bad for EE and ME students. Almost all the CSE students have got placed in the year 2015. Same is the scene with Internship. Many known companies, such as Flipkart, Amazon, Microsoft visit the campus for CSE students (Internship and Placement), but very few core EE and ME companies visit the campus. Key companies that hire from our campus for the role of SDE/SDET include Flipkart, Amazon, Microsoft, Drishti-Soft, Samsung Research, Practo, Grofers.
  • Average Salary (per year) for CSE: Rs 11 lakhs per annum, ME : Rs 7 lakhs per annum, EE: Rs 7 lakhs per annum. Highest Salary for CSE: Rs 27.4 lakhs per annum (India). Percentage of CSE batch that got places: 98%
Fees and Scholarship 9/10
  • The course fee at Indian Institute of Technology, [IIT] Mandi is 96,600 INR Annually.
  • MCM (Merit-Cum-Means) Scholarship is available to the students. It's offered to the top ten students (academically) from each branch, whose parents' annual income is lessers than 6 Lacs/annum, every year. Several other scholarships for the backward communities are also offered.
  • The average number of students who get scholarship is 12 from each branch consisting of 40-50 students.
  • Since, this is a government college, the fee is quite less, but if needed, several banks such as SBI and PNB offer scholar loans to IITians.

Academics & Faculty 6/10
  • All the classes and labwork at Indian Institute of Technology, [IIT] Mandi takes place between 8 AM and 6 PM, although sometimes professors tend to keep the classes as late has 9 PM too, when the syllabus lacks behind the schedule. Most of the courses involve assignments or projects or both.
Each theory lecture is of 50 minutes duration followed by a 10 minutes break. Each semester, students have to write 2 Quizzes and one End-Sem exam for each course, which becomes quite tiresome.
  • The quality of teaching depends from one branch to the other and also, from one teacher to the other. Most of the faculties are highly qualified and motivated towards teaching. At the end, it's the student who is supposed to put in the efforts.
  • The overall academic experience is average for CSE students, as many of them don't learn much required CS courses during their 4 years B.Tech. degree. It's below average for EE and ME students.

Hostels & Food 7/10
  • Hostels were nicely built and mess food as all know how is its taste.
  • There are few hotels in mandi which provide good food but going there regularly will feel you bore.
College Infrastructure 9/10
  • Since the campus is new, it will take some time to get good infrastructure. But during our college time, all the basic facilities has been provided.
Placements & Internships 6/10
  • For different departments, it varies.
  • For CSE, students may get internship and job very easily with companies like Microsoft, google, Amazon with stipends and also provide PPO if you were very brilliantly during the internship.
  • The average salary figure for CSE is around Rs 9-10 lakhs per annum.
  • But for EE and ME, it is very difficult to get both internship and jobs. very fewer companies come to take few students. So most of the EE and ME students, who don't even have interest in CS courses, would sit in IT companies to secure at least one job.
  • For CSE I'll rate 9 out of 10 but for EE and ME I'll rate 3.

Fees and Scholarship 10/10
  • The college fees were not much high during my admission and government provide MCm scholarship for every top 10 students in particular branch.
  • This scholarship includes your whole tuition fees plus Rs 1000 per month.
  • In a batch of 35 students of 1 branch, approx. 9-10 students get scholarship depending on their semester performance.
  • There are nearby banks which can easily provide the loans at less interest.
International Exposure 7/10
  • International exposures were good.
  • There were some exchange programmes for students to study their 1 semester outside the countries that have MoU signed by our college.
  • German language has been taught to ur students as most of the MoU's are wth german universities.
Academics & Faculty 7/10
  • The academic schedule wasn't much hectic but it was made badly in terms of timing of classes.
  • If one class was in morning then another would be after 2 hrs.
  • Regarding the choice of courses, there were various courses are available but it depends on the interest of the student. Some courses were excellent but not well taught by teachers.
  • Professor was easily accessible outside the class. They will even give you an appointment time so that in that time you can clarify your doubts.

Social Atmosphere 4/10
Social atmosphere is outstanding and since it is in hills to environment around adds to it. People are kind and are always willing to help.
Societies & Associations 8/10
There are clubs for almost every cultural and sports activity and even the faculty and staff and active participants and members of these clubs and events.
Placements & Internships 7/10
First of all, since IIT MANDI is in its growing stages so there is no alumni network as such. Regarding jobs and internships it is coming up really good.
Academics & Faculty 8/10
Academic schedule is ok and adjustable. There are a lot of courses to choose from, teachinf quality is not very good but not too bad either. All teaching staff can be accessed any time.
