Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Electronics & Communication Engineering), batch of 2020
Eligibility Criteria and Admission Process
  • One needs to score above the cutoff in JEE's and also the ACPC rank should be below 1000 to get the desired seat in the desired branch, if possible. Basically one needs to score well for getting into Nirma.

CLUBS & ASSOCIATIONS
8/10
  • There are several clubs in the Institute of Technology, Nirma University (ITNU). Fests happen very frequently although no attendance is given for absence due to marketing, publicity or sponsorships of any of the fests
  • The college hosts its own official fests. It hosts the biggest tech-fest (NuTech) of Gujarat and the biggest cultural fest of Gujarat as well.

INFRASTRUCTURE & TRANSPORTATION
8/10
  • The infrastructure is very good. The labs are nice but there are no ACs in our classrooms and Ahmedabad gets quite hot in summers.
  • There is no hostel for undergraduates although there are a lot of PGs nearby the campus. I'm a local student, so I don't know in much detail about the PG facilities and costs.
  • There are 4 canteens+2 messes inside the Nirma campus and the food is bang for the buck.

ACADEMICS & FACULTY
8/10
  • The Class timings are from either 9am-4pm or 11am-6pm or 9-6 if you're unlucky. There are 3 major exams: Class tests, Sessional exams and Semester end exams and all of these have a significant weightage to the final result we get at the end of the semester.
  • The teaching standard is good and depends on what sort of teacher you get and how much you're willing to study.

FEES AND SCHOLARSHIP
7/10
  • The fees per semester are around 88,000 for general category students. So that is nearly Rs. 1,75,000 per year.
  • The General category students (like me) are not offered any scholarships but other category students are offered many scholarships from different sources including the Alumni association of Nirma.

PLACEMENTS & ALUMNI NETWORK
7/10
  • I am a first-year student at the moment, so I do not know much about the placements at Nirma University, but I have heard from seniors that pretty decent placement offers happen here.
  • Although I do receive many e-mails for internships, I haven't been into any internship yet.

Eligibility Criteria and Admission Process
  • My overall percentile after The boards + JEE(mains)[40%+60% weightage respectively] was around 97 which is enough to get into any field at Nirma except Computer Engineering.
  • I chose EC (electronics and communications) because I like dealing with electronics and is a combination of both hardware and software knowledge.
  • The cut-offs for EC are relatively low, about 90 percentile or less, as it has less value in India with respect to other countries.

Mostly it will be either from 8:45 to 4 :00 pm or 11:15 to 6:00 pm.There will be continuous evaluation which will constitute 60% in final marks while 40% of final marks will be based on End-Sem Exam. There will be various written assignments, a special assignment and two internal exams(1 m.c.q based and another subjective) and a viva during this continuous evaluation.

There is the good emphasis on project-based learning and outcome-based learning. Subjects are included by consulting various alumni's based on their experiences.
  • There should be 85% minimum attendance. If less then that, one has to write additional assignments which can be managed. But take care that it won't go below 65% else you will be detained.
