Application Process for MA

Application Process for M.Sc

M.Sc Botany / M.Sc Life Science / M.Sc Microbiology / M.Sc Geology :

  • The College has introduced an ONLINE application system for the above mentioned First Year post-graduate M.Sc. Part-I courses.  

  • All candidates applying for admission are expected to apply through the online application system on the homepage of the website Xavier's College.

  • The Online Application fee of Rs. 250 is to be paid by demand draft in favour of “St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai” payable in Mumbai for St. Xavier College, Mumbai admissions. 

  • The last date for submission of online application forms for admission to the College and dates for display of merit lists will be put up on the “homepage” of our website after the declaration of the B.Sc. Degree results of Mumbai University.

M.Sc Biotechnology :

  • Admission to the course will be purely merit-based in accordance with the marks obtained in Biotechnology at the T.Y.B.Sc. examination. 

  • Applications for the course will be available Online.

Application Process for Other Courses.

BMS/ BMM / BA /  B.Voc  / B.Sc (IT):

  • The applicants should fill up the "PRE APPLICATION FORM" which has to be mandatory fill up by all the applicants seeking admissions to the first year course in Degree courses.
  • The Pre–Admission Online Registration Form is available on University website

  • Applications for admissions to the BMS and BMM courses are to be submitted online, and the admission process includes an Entrance Exam.

  • Mode of Application for BMM/BMS  Entrance Test for St. Xavier's College, Mumbai admission 2019:
    • Candidates can apply online.

    • The fee for the online application:

      •  ST /SC candidates: Rs. 1000/-

      • For other candidates: Rs. 3000/-

    • Candidates are required to make an online payment through Credit/Debit Cards.

    •  The filling of the Application Forms and the Payment for the Entrance Test will be only through the online portal of St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai.

    • Instructions for Applying Online: 
      • Log on to the official website of the University/College.

      • Follow the instructions given on the website carefully for filling the online application form.

      • Once a payment has been received the candidate will receive a confirmation email.

      • Subsequently, the candidate will be able to download and print an Admit Card for the Entrance Test.

      • The Candidate will need to affix a recent passport size photograph on the printed Admit Card and get it attested by their School / College Principal or a Gazetted Officer and carry it to the Examination Hall and also carry their Aadhaar Card/Junior College ID Card.

  • For the MA in Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology an Entrance Test will be held for students from faculties other than Arts and other Universities
  • Applicants who do not belong to the Arts Faculty of the University of Mumbai will be provided with an online hall ticket for St. Xavier's College, Mumbai admissions 2019.

  • Applicants have to bring a print out of the hall ticket and a valid government Identity Card for the Exam.

  • The pattern for the two-hour Entrance exam is as follows:

    • Objective Section: Multiple choices and objective type questions of 60 marks will be asked

    • Essay Section: The candidate needs to write an essay on the set of given questions for 40 marks.

The MA in Public Policy (MPP) being an Individual organisation will hold an Entrance Test for all aspirants for admission

  • St. Xavier’s College, an Autonomous College under the University of Mumbai, invites applications for Entrance Test and admission to the Three Year Degree Courses in Bachelor in Mass Media (BMM) and Bachelor in Management Studies (BMS).

Eligibility Criteria for MA

MA in Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology:

  • Students with a bachelor’s degree in any faculty or discipline, with a minimum of 50% marks can apply.

  • Students from any faculty other than the Arts Faculty, University of Mumbai will have to appear for an entrance exam and an interview.

  • Students from other universities from any faculty have to appear for an entrance exam and an interview for St. Xavier's College, Mumbai admissions 2019.

  • Students from other universities will require their transfer certificate and will have to apply for a provisional eligibility certificate from the University of Mumbai.

  • Provisional admission will be given to students who have appeared for third-year exams and are awaiting the results.

  • Original mark sheets needed at admission time.

Eligibility Criteria for M.Sc

M.Sc Botany:

  • The applicants passing the B.Sc. Degree from Universities other than Mumbai University and seeking admissions to First Year

  • A candidate for being eligible for admission to the M.Sc. Degree in Botany should have passed the B.Sc in the same specialization.

  • B.Sc Botany from any other University recognized as equivalent thereto for St. Xavier College, Mumbai admissions 2019.      

M.Sc Biotechnology / M.Sc Microbiology :

  • The applicants have to qualify B.Sc Biotechnology (3-year integrated course) degree examination of Mumbai University or any other University recognized as equivalent thereto, with at least 6 units in Biotech (i.e. minimum required for majoring in the subject). 

  • With three units in Biotechnology at the T.Y.B.Sc in combination with three units of any other major subject at the T.Y.B.Sc

M.Sc Geology :

  • Applicants passing the B.Sc Degree from Universities other than Mumbai University and seeking admissions to First Year

  • The esteemed M.Sc Courses are required to apply for a Provisional Eligibility Certificate through the College at the time of admission. 

  • The application form is available at the College Office, duly filled in should be submitted with an attested copy of the B.Sc.

  • Graduates with a degree from a recognised University / College with the major subject as Geology (6 units in Geology at the T.Y. B.Sc) can apply.

  • Graduates from colleges affiliated to other Universities (other than Mumbai) will need the eligibility certificate from the University of Mumbai.

M.Sc Life Science :

  • Graduates in Botany, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Life Science, Microbiology, Zoology from the University of Mumbai are all eligible.

  • Graduates in any of the above-mentioned disciplines from another Indian University are eligible but will have to submit a provisional eligibility certificate.

Eligibility Criteria for Other Courses.

BMS / BMM / BA / B.Voc  / B.Sc (IT)  :

  • Candidates passing (10+2) Examinations from Foreign Boards and applicants passing from International Baccalaureate (I.B.) or “A” levels examinations such as:
    • General Certificate of Education (GCE)

    • Cambridge International School Exam (CIE) of Cambridge or University of London are required to first approach the University of Mumbai, Eligibility Section in Mumbai.

  • The applicants then need to obtain a ‘PRIMA FACIE’ Eligibility Letter from the University of Mumbai for being the eligible candidate for admissions to all First Year Degree Courses which are mentioned below :

The cutoff for open caste students is very high; but if you come under any reserved caste or Christian minority, it is easy to get in. Difference between Christian minority and the non-christian minority is around 25%. There is no need for any entrance exam for B.Sc. Admission is based on 12 standard mark sheet.

  •  Applications for admissions to the BMS and BMM courses are to be submitted online, and the admission process includes an Entrance Exam. Please look up the details on the Home Page of the College website. Online applications for these two courses are accepted from the 1st of May to the 30th of May of the concerned academic year.
  • The College has an ONLINE application system through a facility on its website.  This facility will be available from the last week of May. This site can be used for: FYBA / BSc / BCom / BMS / BMM / BSc (IT) / BVoc in Tourism & Software Development; and, the First Year Masters Courses including M.Sc in Botany, Biotechnology, Geology, Life Sciences and Microbiology, and MA in AIC and in Public Policy.

Admissions: 

  1. Admission of students into the Autonomous Degree Courses will be on the basis of the aggregate marks in the qualifying examination or its equivalent, for both the Undergraduate Courses and the Masters Courses, unless specified otherwise.  The quota system as specified by the Government of Maharashtra will be followed for Minority, Backward Class and other candidates.                                                 
  2. For the BMS & BMM Courses, unlike other courses, the students come from all 3 faculties (Arts, Science & Commerce) where the marking systems are very different.  Hence an Entrance Test for these courses will be conducted for admission purposes.  Admissions to the BMS & BMM will be on the basis of the entrance test: 60%, an interview: 20% and the XII Std. marks: 20%.

The M.Sc Life Sciences programme will also have an Entrance Test for admission and the M.A. in Ancient Indian Culture will hold an Entrance Test for students from faculties other than Arts.

  1. All applications for admissions to any undergraduate or postgraduate Degree Course should be submitted by the date notified by the College. Late applications may not be accepted.
  2. Admissions can be considered to be granted only when the full fees for the academic year are paid, an official receipt has been issued and the name of the applicant appears on the relevant rolls. Payment in full or in part can be condoned or deferred by the Principal.
  3. All admissions, both of undergraduates and post-graduates, are valid only for one year and are therefore to be renewed for each subsequent year of study. Students who misbehave and have serious complaints of indiscipline against them during the year will not be re-admitted to the College.
  4. No student will ordinarily be re-admitted to the College after three unsuccessful attempts at the same examination or after s/he has not been granted terms by the College in two successive years.

 

Provisional Eligibility Certificate

Students passing the Class XII from other Boards i.e. ISC, CBSE, IB, other State Boards etc or Foreign Boards / Universities have to apply for a provisional eligibility certificate issued by the University of Mumbai at the time of admissions through the College.   Therefore, candidates who accept the offer of admission to the College will be given the prescribed application forms for provisional eligibility.  The duly filled in forms are required to be returned to the College with an attested copy of the class XII marksheet and a passport size photograph along with a prescribed fee of Rs.320/- for eligibility and Rs.500/- (towards verification of documents) total Rs.820/- The duly filled in application form will then be forwarded to the University of Mumbai for issue of the Provisional Eligibility Certificate. 

Further, candidates admitted to the College on the strength of the provisional eligibility certificate issued by the University of Mumbai, are required to submit the original and attested copies of the following certificates/documents as mentioned below to the College Office before the close of the 1st semester or at the beginning of the 2nd semester.  These certificates will be sent to the University of Mumbai for confirmation of eligibility to the respective courses in which he/she has been offered admission.
