It was started in the year 1996 in the Haldia-industrial hub in eastern India. HIT college has become an icon of technical education in this part of the country.

• Admission to the B.Tech course is given through WBJEE. Candidates are admitted to the B.Tech LTE course based on their merit in WB-JELET conducted by WBJEEB. The minimum eligibility requirement for admission to B. Tech LTE course candidates should have completed a Diploma in Engineering from a recognized University. 
• They must possess a valid score in PGET (WBTU), GATE + GDPI for M.Tech.
• They must possess a valid score in WB-JEMAT + GDPI for MBA.
• They must possess a valid score in WBJECA + GDPI for MCA.

• The candidate should pass with at least 45% marks in their 10+2 Examination with Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry/ Biology/ Biotechnology/ Technical Vocational subjects to get through Haldia Institute of Technology, Haldia admission.
• The college offers three postgraduate programs. The eligibility criteria of the M.Tech program is a Bachelor’s degree in B.E/B. Tech, for the MBA course, is graduation in any discipline and the selection is through WB-JEMAT and for MCA is done through WB-JECA. GD and PI are also held by the university before making the final selection.

The college presently offers a few postgraduate courses which are M.Tech, MCA and MBA. Haldia Institute of Technology runs an M.Tech course of 2-years duration in 5 disciplines. The institute also offers an MBA program of 2-year duration and an MCA program of 3-years duration.

• For M.Tech, MBA and MCA the applicant must have a minimum of BE or B. Tech in a relevant discipline from a recognized university.

Candidates must apply online for the entrance examination through the official website of MAKAUT. The form shall be filled out online and submitted in offline mode either through the post or in person. The payment of the fee must be done through the Demand Draft.
