Kriti's review on National Institute of Fashion Technology, [NIFT] Mumbai | Written on: 08 May 2015

NIFT is a place to learn. Explore. Travel. Create.

Academically, well we have no books. But knowledge,it's never enough. From the oldest form of art in our country to the latest technology used, NIFT has an account of everything.

Projects? We call them assignments. Afterall, we're a design college.

The course content is really hefty. A hell lot of knowledge to grasp. Though with the amount of work and lack of sleep we, as students, do tend to crib about it at times, but in the end, it's all worth it.

Amazing faculty. A full-fledged package of any and everything. Easy to approach. Always ready to help.

We being designers should technically know what design is. But here at NIFT, apart from being a designer, you're an artist, a sculptor, a carpenter, a photographer, a fashion-accessory-textile-knitwear-leather-graphics designer. And the fun fact being, it's still never enough for us.

YES. We do have a provision which says that during your third year you can apply for a students exchange program. Based on your merit and credits you'll be selected out of quite a many applicants and you'd then get a chance to study in universities like FIT, New York for one semester. No extra fees. Same as what you pay here. BUT, you'll have to manage your living cost thereafter.

Being designers, the intial packages might leave you disgruntled but as you walk along the path and keep learning, the salary hikes are pretty good. The minimum package is 2 lacs p.a. Maximum:12-13 lacs p.a.

There's no maximum actually. You never know what magic your work creates.

Huge halls. Well equipped labs. Each classroom is provided with a projector.

Technical fails do occur at times, but that's technology, not our fault. We do have people to fix them up though.

 HOSTELS & FOOD Know more

Hotel facilities are great. Quite a number of flats to rent around. pretty good quality of food.

The surrounding area has quite a number of good hangout corners.

We have different cultural and sports socities and the activities are planned accordingly.

There's a ground inside the campus itself.

Brilliant social atmosphere. Professional in approach and that's the best part.

everybody is accepted in here regardless of their gender, ethnicity, race or religion.

No use of alcohol at campus.

This is a dry area.
