ACADEMICS & FACULTY: Classes works from 8am to 1pm for morning college and 1.30 to 5.30 for evening college. It is an autonomous institution. the college management is FMM sisters. All UG courses are available. Most of the teachers are doctorate and hence they have very good knowledge over the subject and the quality of teaching is the best..It is one of the best womens college in chennai, Tamilnadu. Prof are available to the students irrespective of the class hours. Stella Maris is the best womens college to be preferred if you are interested in doing arts and science.
FOREIGN EXCHANGE & INTERNATIONAL EXPOSURE: Stella Maris College has a Tie-up with the foreign universities. English is the medium of instruction and the language that is spoken in college is English.
CLUBS & ASSOCIATIONS: The College not only focusses on academics but also gives importance for sports and Recreation. College gives an option not only to excel in studies but in sports too. The studnets have won first prize in several games. there are various clubs where students are welcomed to take part and unleash their talents.
SOCIAL ATMOSPHERE: The college atmosphere is good. There is no separation between the students. It is a womens college. All the students are treated equally irrespective of their caste, creed,religion.

The College is a Catholic minority institution established and run by the Society of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM), a religious congregation founded by Blessed Mary of the Passion (Helene de Chappotin) in Ootacamund, Tamil Nadu in 1877. The initiatives of the College arise from a sound philosophy of life based on faith in God and the contemporary reality of a pluralistic Indian society that is challenged by global ideologies and cultures.

Student Services

Stella Maris believes in going the extra mile for its students. The College provides a gamut of services including financial assistance, career guidance, mentoring, remedial coaching, and many more. These services aim to enhance the students’ skills and prepare them for the challenges that await them in the world outside.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Education is meant to be inclusive and Stella Maris has always followed an open door policy for students from disadvantaged sections of society. The College offers scholarships to deserving students. On a merit-cum-need basis, students may apply for Management, Private and Government scholarships. Fee concessions are also available.

CAREER GUIDANCE CELL

Choosing the right career is not easy in this age of multifarious opportunities. The Career Guidance Cell (CGC), a branch of the Stella Maris Alumnae Association, offers career guidance and conducts training programmes. It facilitates Campus Recruitment for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Career oriented training programmes are organized for final year students. In the second half of the academic year, the CGC focuses on organizing campus placement drives, career guidance programmes and orientation on options for higher education.

MENTORING

A good mentor can make a world of difference to a student who has to deal with several challenges in life and academics. Under the mentoring system, faculty members offer students both academic and personal guidance. Mentors meet their wards thrice every semester and keep a record of their progress in the mentoring book provided to each student.

REMEDIAL COACHING

Slow learners don’t get left behind at Stella Maris. Course teachers arrange remedial coaching for slow learners in all the undergraduate departments. This extra coaching helps first-generation learners, students from the vernacular medium and slow learners to cope with the challenge of higher education.

THE WRITING CENTRE

Many students are often clueless when it comes to writing term papers and assignments. The writing centre addresses this problem by helping students who need guidance in writing term papers or assignments. The centre is attached to the Department of English and improves the writing skills of students specifically in the areas of grammar, content organization and writing style.

LANGUAGE PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMME

This unique English language support programme was recently launched by the English department. It helps students hone their skills in spoken English. Teaching is done on a one-to-one basis by peer teachers and is monitored by the faculty in charge of the programme.

BOOK BANK

At Stella Maris, every department has a book bank. Students who cannot afford to buy the prescribed textbooks may borrow them from the book bank and keep them for their personal use either for the entire semester or for a shorter period of time, depending on the demand and the number of books available.

PATHWAYS PROGRAMME

The motto of the Stella Maris Pathways programme is "Pathways to Opportunities." This programme helps students from disadvantaged sections of society to become academically and socially competent individuals. Training sessions for undergraduate students are conducted throughout the year. Students gain self-confidence through workshops on personality development. They are also trained in computer skills, language and communication skills and employability skills.

 

 

Classroom Facilities-
All the classrooms of the college are well furnished with all modern facilities.

HOSTEL

The Institution provides facilities for hostel accommodation for both boys and girls. The hostels are spacious, safe and secured with a cordial environment and surrounded by pleasant landscapes. A hygienic kitchen has been provided in each hostel with large dining halls. The rooms are well furnished. college has 4(four) ladies hostels accommodating 1400 (one thousand four hundred) and above boarders and 7(seven) boys

TRAINING & PLACEMENT :

The career guidance cell, a branch of the Stella Maris alumnae association, plays a major role in conducting training programs and facilitating campus recruitment for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
