Department of Integrative Medicine

Integrative medicine is grounded in the definition of health. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. Integrative medicine is a combination of mainstream (conventional) medicine with complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), for which there is high-quality scientific evidence of safety and effectiveness.

In the year 2013, Dept. of Community Medicine, conducted ‘SAMANVAYA – a conference on Alternative Medicine’ which had brainstorming sessions on AYUSH systems of Medicine by eminent speakers from a different specialty, which led the foundation for the Department of Integrative Medicine by upgrading the existing division of Yoga (which was under Allied Health Sciences). As far as our knowledge SDUAHER is the first University to introduce Yoga in the medical and nursing curriculum.

Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics

It is a comprehensive entity. Integrated B.Sc – M.Sc Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics is designed to cover multidisciplinary perspectives, encouraging depth and breadth in understanding complex issues at each level, without any repetition of the course contents. It enhances student’s engagement through experiential and active learning, which supports an integrated course capacity to address the challenges posed by the increasingly complex world of today. This is achieved through a blend of academics, research training, and extension as well as therapeutic applications The PG program in this discipline has been designed to provide the students intensive and extensive theoretical and experiential training. The program allows flexibility in the choice of thrust areas, which students can select, based on their career goals.

Department of Physiotherapy

The physiotherapy department was established in the year 1996 with 2 therapists under RLJ hospital and an academic program with BPT (Bachelor of physiotherapy) started in the year 2016.

A physiotherapist treats medical conditions such as orthopedic dysfunctions, musculoskeletal disorders, post-operative care, trauma care, skin care, infections, diabetes, stroke, and other neurological disorders, cardio-respiratory diseases, children with disability, disability prevention, and community physiotherapy. The physiotherapy services are available for all age groups i.e. from childbirth to geriatrics.
