RMD Engineering college is a private institution in the field of Engineering was established in 2001 funded by the Sri Swaminatha Naidu Educational Trust. The Engineering College situated in Thiruvallur is a sister institute of RMK Group of institutions. RMDEC founded by Thiru. Ravilla. S. Munirathinam is a Green Campus specializing in Engineering and Technology. The College aims to develop students as fabulous professionals by creating a surrounding that would nurture their creativity, professionalism, academic excellence by providing efficient high standard education. RMD Engineering College has the vision to become one of the premier colleges of India imparting education in the field of technology and research education. The college offers courses at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. The college is affiliated with Anna University and recognized by AICTE, India, and NBA. The college is accredited by NAAC ‘A’ grade. The college is spread across 27 acres of beautiful lush green land which makes it student-friendly. The entire campus has landscaping with green grass, ornamental plants and shady trees making the campus very green and beautiful. The college presents an attractive and pleasant look with its green and pollution-free ambience which is conducive to good teaching – learning ambience. The college uses solar street lights and plans to cover the entire campus with alternative power sources such as Solar / windmill . A detailed technical study for the implementation is in progress.

The college offers various undergraduate, postgraduate and research programs in the disciplines of engineering and technology from which the eligible candidates can apply to those programs of their interest.

The college offers a Master of Engineering Degree program in the discipline of Computer Science and Engineering. This is a two year program and the college has a sanctioned intake of only 18 seats per academic year.

Doctoral Programs

RMD Engineering College Infrastructure:

Spread across 27 acres of lush green environment, the college has excellent infrastructure facilities including adequate class rooms, tutorial rooms, laboratories , seminar halls for respective departments and Library & sports facilities. The academic infrastructure includes Instructional Area,Laboratories,Library,computer centre,Laboratory equipment,Hardware & Software in the Computer Centre and other computing facilities,Audio-visual equipment & Educational CDs. The building infrastructure includes a full-fledged permanent Building and the maintenance is carried out by a skilled and qualified team. Maintenance wing is headed by 3 site engineers, with 17 Assistant Engineers, Supervisors and workmen in all. Their responsibilities include periodical maintenance of the buildings, apart from planning and construction of new buildings or extensions. All the individual departments have adequate number of LCD projectors and OHPs. They are under regular service contracts and periodical inspection is carried out by the suppliers. The college central library is located in the new block with a carpet area of 1430 sq.mt. It contains 60010 volumes of books and 14199 titles. The Library subscribes to 66 national Journals, 6 leading international E-journals and E-books database, 60 Magazines, 10 News Papers, 1691 back volumes of journals and 6649 CD ROMs. Books are classified and arranged according to the Universal Decimal classification scheme. The value of books, periodicals and other materials in the library is around Rs.2.5 Crore.The Library Services are automated through the use of standard library software package called “AutoLib 5.2 version”. The circulation services are fully computerized and all the documents are bar-coded. The College has a fleet of 80 buses, 15 vans and cars to transport students and staff from Chennai to college and back. These buses operate along 8 routes starting from different points approximately between 6.30 and 6.45 a.m. A clinic with the full time doctor and a dispensary with two beds is available at the college with two ambulance vans for emergencies. A medical shop is kept open till 9.30 p.m. A clinic, with beds along with an on call Doctor facility for 24 Hours to take care of the health requirements of the hostel students, is also available. The college has a well equipped power gym and hydraulic gym (Air Conditioned) with the latest multiple machines. These gyms could accommodate 100 Students per session. Each session is engaged by experienced trainers.

RMD Engineering College Placement:

The Department of Training and Placement at RMD Engineering College was set up in June 2004 for the first time in the history of College, with a view to enable the students to get the employment opportunities right in the campus while they pursue their studies. This department interacts with reputed organizations all over the country for arranging campus interviews for the placement of final year students. It takes great efforts to send most of the students for in-plant training to enhance their technical ability and gain exposure to the practical world. Industrial visits to reputed companies are arranged to know more details about industrial activities. It also enhances the soft-skill capability of the students through regular training programs. The department counsels the final year students for their higher studies and for getting projects from industries. The cell comprises members of faculty one from each of the Engineering Departments to coordinate with the Training and placement Department, in conducting programs like communication skill development, Personality development, Technical skill development, etc. Since the time of its inception, the members of the cell have been working on the training and development activities to equip the students to meet the requirements of the recruiting companies. The college has provided conference halls equipped with Audio-Visual systems, powerpoint presentation systems, Literature such as Puzzle solving books, books that contain information on career development, managerial ethics and techniques needed to face interviews, and books on computer languages. The Institution has a remarkable interaction with the top ranking IT, Electrical and Electronics Industries and this Industry-Institution interaction helps the student community to be aware of the demand of the recruiters. RMD Engineering College Admission:

Applicants applying for RMDEC must be a resident of Tamil Nadu state. RMD Engineering College admission to B.Tech/BE courses is offered on the basis of the merit in the qualifying exam. They must appear for the TNEA Counselling conducted by Anna University. In the final stage are document verification and fee payment based on which admission is confirmed. He/she must pay the requisite fee once the documents are verified. They must register and apply online on the website of Anna University. Candidates from other states will be considered as Other Communities (OC) irrespective of their community for the purpose of minimum eligibility marks. Application for admission should be made in the prescribed form available along with the prospectus. Filled-in-application forms along with non-refundable registration fees as stipulated should be sent to the office of the Principal, R.M.D. Engineering College, R.S.M. Nagar, Kavaraipettai, Gummidipoondi Taluk, Thiruvallur district. PIN - 601206. Tuition and other fees prescribed by the college should be paid in full before the stipulated date. Fees once paid will not be refunded on any account. If any student wishes to leave the course in the middle, he / she shall pay the tuition fee prescribed for the course. Students rusticated from the college shall forfeit the entire fee paid. The decision of the management will be final in all matters regarding admission, training & discipline and it will be legally binding on all parties concerned.

RMD Engineering College Cut Off:

The college has set a minimum cut off marks to be obtained by the prospective candidate in order to secure admission in its offered undergraduate programs. These minimum marks varied category wise and students are advised to refer accordingly.

RMD Engineering College Hostel:

The college provides hostel facilities for both boys and girls within the college premises with all the required facilities creating a home away from home atmosphere. Both the residential facilities have a library, reading room, shuttle court, table tennis and a store to facilitate the students. The hostel blocks also have a landline phone with STD facility and free Wi-Fi connectivity. Physical fitness is given utmost importance. The college hostel facility is equipped with an air-conditioned gymnasium with state-of-the-art equipment especially for men. Moreover, the Boys Hostel is annexed with a full-fledged air-conditioned hair grooming centre. A separate gymnasium for women is also annexed with the Girls Hostel. The Girls Hostel has a full-fledged air conditioned Beauty Parlor attached to it.

The boys hostel comprises two buildings exclusively provided for men and it accommodates more than 600 students. The college has a separate hostel for women. One building with three floors is made available exclusively for women to accommodate around 450 students.

Dining and Health Care

• The Management is a strong believer of the policy “A Sound body is essential for a sound mind”.
• The College is awarded the ‘Food Safety Award’ for the year 2015-16 & 2016-17 , in Thiruvallur District, by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of Tamil Nadu.
• The College is also Licensed under Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 by FSSAI and the license is valid till 2022.
• Food sample is periodically tested and monitored for its quality and hygiene as per the FSSAI standards.
• The hostel is annexed with a kitchen, to provide food in a protected and hygienic environment along with dining halls, which can accommodate more than 1000 students at a time. And food is served for the entire strength of students, staff and visitors, in batches.
• Healthy and nutritive food is served. The hostel kitchen has facilities for steam cooking with gas stoves. There are four dining halls housed in two buildings.

Rules and Regulations for hostel residents

•  No student should stay in the hostel, without specific permission from the warden, when the college is working.
•  The Mess Timings are Break fast : 7.30a.m - 8.00a.m Lunch : As provided in the college timetable Tea : 3.30p.m - 4.00 p.m Dinner : 7.30p.m - 8.00p.m
•  The study hours in the hostel are from 8.30 p.m to 10.30 p.m daily. During the study hours, the students are expected to stay in their rooms and keep their rooms open. They should avoid group discussions
•  Students can entertain the visitors only during the visiting hours. The normal visiting hours are from 4.00p.m to 6.00p.m on working days and from 8.00a.m to 6.00p.m on Sundays and other holidays.
•  Permission to go out of the Hostel will be given only once in a month on a holiday. They can leave the Hostel after 6.30a.m and should return before 6.00p.m
•  No student will be allowed to go out based on a phone message. Phone calls from outsiders, other than parents of students, are strictly prohibited.
•  Parents are requested to give a list of authorized visitors/local guardians who alone will be permitted to visit the students in the hostel. Visitors other than those given in the above list should get an authorization from the parents or the parents should intimate the proposed visit to the principal in advance.
• Students will ordinarily be permitted to go home only if the college is closed continuously for more than 3 days or more. Students going out of the hostel either to the city or on a holiday should enter the date and time of leaving the hostel and date and time of returning to the hostel.
•  Any student willing to attend a function in the house, marriage or any other ceremony will be permitted to go only if the request is directly made by the parents to the principal.
•  Local guardians authorized by parents of the students are intended to take care of the students welfare and provide moral support. They may visit the students periodically during visiting hours. Students are not permitted to stay in the local guardian’s house overnight nor the local guardians can invite their wards to their houses over phone.
•  Parents, local guardians and visitors can meet the students only in the visitors hall and not in any other place. Students are discouraged from taking their friends along with them when they meet the visitors.
• Day Scholars are not allowed to visit the hostels on any account.
• Hostel students are not permitted to use the college bus, which is meant for day scholars.
•  Unauthorised electrical fittings and gadgets should not be used in the hostel rooms. Students who are found guilty of misbehavior or bad conduct will be expelled from the hostels.
•  Students are expected to keep their rooms neat and tidy and are responsible for the furniture and bedding provided to them.
