ACADEMICS & FACULTY:
  • “Faculty of the Civil branch is excellent”, says a final year student. Departments like Information Technology and Mechanical have excellent teachers. There is a lot of room for research work in these departments. Above average teaching in other branches, but you cannot expect more from professors of a government engineering institute. However, the importance of professors is much more here because of its autonomous nature. Many times the questions asked in the final exams are straight from the professors’ notes. Many experienced faculties have retired in the recent past and the new appointees do not match them in knowledge, qualifications or experience. However, they make up for all these with their enthusiasm and friendly nature.

  • While many students say that Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) has lost its lustre, yet it eclipses many other institutes in terms of innovative methods of teaching and facilities provided to students. And undoubtedly, the legacy has been its pivotal factor. Its name is known to many, even outside the country. Must take if you get your desired field.

ACADEMICS & FACULTY:

Class timing is good and starts at 9 in the morning.Paper pattern and questions are really interesting and something in which you have to apply your brain.I am yet to for a project as students go for projects in the 7th semester although i believe that project will be a very good opportunity to apply engineering skills in a real world scenario. The assignments are on a easy side since there a direct questions from the book The faculty is not highly qualified. From my last six semester experience maximum of 2 teachers were capable to teach a subject properly. The faculty is helpful and are available for one to one session their cabins.

Overall methods of teaching is ok. I\'m satisfied with the placements of VJTI as it\'s providing us lots of internship and ppo offers starting from 6th semester.It\'s good enough for placements compared to rest of colleges in Mumbai.I will suggest future aspirants to go for VJTI its really good compare to other engineering in all the aspects.

  • Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute, popular as VJTI, is an esteemed autonomous government engineering institute located in central Mumbai. It is just a 5 minute drive or 12-15 minute walk from Dadar (W. Rly & C. Rly.), Matunga (C. Rly.), Wadala (Harbour Rly.) and King’s Circle (Harbour Rly.) stations. Number of BEST buses plying from all parts of Mumbai is also a good option to reach the college.

FEES AND SCHOLARSHIP:
  • Being an autonomous intitute the fees are discounted as compared to other top university engineering programme. Per year fees is around Rs. 50,000 for general category student and Rs. 19,000 for reserved category student as they are given scholarship by government.
  • There are many private scholarships available. Like VJTI have ties with Ratan Tata scholarship, Sir dorabji and JRD TATA scholarship, Narottam sekhsaria, Siemens are some of them.
  • Out of these some are merit based scholarship while others are merit cum means based.
  • Every years there is also alumni association scholarships given worth full year college fees. But these are given just to toppers.

FEES AND SCHOLARSHIP: VJTI is an autonomous institute with government aided, thus annual fees for B. Tech programme per student is RS.50660 for students in general category. for economically backward students and students under caste reservation have to pay only development fees.  The ggovernment provides scholarship for the students under caste reservation. Along with this, there is also a scheme 'Earn while learn' in which students can earn by working in the institute itself while learning. Even some of the companies come up with the scholarships for students. For example, Credit Suisse offers scholarship for girl students of Rs.50000 through a competition. Siemens and Tata Trust offers the scholarship for brilliant and economically backward students, as well.

PLACEMENTS & ALUMNI NETWORK:

Placements:

  • Placements at VJTI are certainly top notch. The college has consistently maintained the cent percent streak for most of the department. The name of the institute and its legacy are enough to get excellent placements, perhaps the best in Mumbai after IIT-B. Multinational companies like Microsoft (16 lpa), Google (19.95 lpa), Goldman Sachs, Oracle, Morgan Stanely, Yahoo and Deloitte also place a few students sometimes. Amongst mass recruiters Infosys, L&T and Cognizant tops the chart. Average salary is around 3.5 lakhs p.a. Special thing about placements here is that core engineering branches of Civil, Mechanical & Electrical don’t have to compromise by taking up an IT job. They get their branch specific job profiles, which is hardly the case in any Mumbai University colleges.

INFRASTRUCTURE & TRANSPORTATION:
  • Canteen:
  • VJTI canteen is certainly not bad for a government college. There are cleanliness issues; often it stinks a bit, but overflowing with students most of the times. Though it is quiet spacious, during lunch break, you’ll have to strive hard to find a place. The food is damn cheap and tasty, too. Ragada Samosa (Rs. 20), Fried Rice (Rs. 35) and Samosa Pav (Rs. 10) are the hot favourites. Non-vegetarians also won’t regret.
  •
  • Infrastructure:
  • The campus of VJTI is huge, one might even get lost initially. Lots of open space, a cricket and a football field, tennis courts and basketball court are available for recreational activities. However the buildings being old, the classrooms and the labs are not places you’ll enjoy being in. “You’ll get baked to death in the heat during the summers”, says a second year Mechanical student. Many instruments in labs are old which often fail to function properly. You can access internet from computer labs whenever you wish. Wi-Fi connectivity has been promised but not been installed yet.
  • Hostel facilities are available but are pretty old and obsolete. Twin or triple sharing rooms are usually not clean. Washrooms in the hostels as well as college invariably stink.

INFRASTRUCTURE & TRANSPORTATION:
  • Hoste consists of 5 blocks (one block for girls). Hostel is in poor state and infrastructure is degrading. No renovation works are being done. Toileteris have no flushing provision.
  • PGs can cost upto 7000 INR per month in city like Mumbai.
  • College food is average. But the hotel mess and canteen kitchens are very unhygienic and filthy although food cost is low. A lunch plate costs 40 rupees.
  • Quality of class rooms of civil department is the best in India probably. Fully air conditioned and superb interiors. College I\'d equipped with WiFi but students need to pay for it per hour.

INFRASTRUCTURE & TRANSPORTATION:
  • There are 3 hostels for boys and 1 for girls . 20 students from each branch get opportunity to get hostel facility and selections are based on merit. Hostel fees is Rs 20000 per year and mess fees is Rs 25000 approx per year.
  • Canteen in college is excellent and you get 50 rupee meal(very tasty). Other snacks are also available at very reasonable price .
  • Infrastructure is not that good ,may be because it is very old institute. Even though they have maintained it very nicely. Free WiFi is available in college but speed is not very fast but good. For educational purposes internet lab is also there for students where you can access e library also.

Every year 110 students from the first year are admitted in the hostel. the admission to the hostel is on the basis of merit cum need. Hence accomodation is provided only for the students out of mumbai. There is a mess service for each block of hostel and it serves good food to the students. Also there's Saraswati Vachanalaya in the hostel which provides books facility to the students as well as platform for extra curricular activities.

HOSTELS & FOOD: Even tough I am not hostelite i know about the condition of hostel condition through my friends. the food availabe in hostel is good, as it should be expected from any other hostel. the rooms are pretty spacious and three students share one room. enough for 3 students.  they are constructing one more hostel builing in campus nad that will be alotted as girl's hostel. but these hostels in-campus are not enough for the number of students coming from outside mumbai. so many students have to stay as P.G. and this costs a lot food is canteen is hygenic, super-tasty and cheap! you will get variety of dishes here, and 'ragda samosa' at Vjti is what  you won't find anywhere else.

HOSTELS & FOOD: I'm a localite. But hostels are there for boys and girls. The selection is mainly based on grades and distance between college and home address. The capacity of hostel is very less in both cases so most of the students take flat on rent and share it between small groups. Again as college is located in very high class locality rent is very high.
