ACADEMICS & FACULTY:
  • Academic schedule is fixed and the entire schedule comes before the commencement of semester.
  • Fixed no. of lectures and hours are allotted for each subject.
  • Best part is in the final semester students have flexibility to go for some open courses which they can even take up outside department depending upon there choice and interests.
  • In the entire semester there are three exams Minor 1, Minor 2 and Majors so that there is regular evaluation of students which makes the schedule really hectic plus there are regular lab works and projects along with surprise quizzes also.
  • Quality and teaching methodology is good. Professors focus more on research work than on theory lectures.
  • We can comfortably go to the professor with our problems and discuss it with them and they guide us in best possible way. But marks of students are totally in hands of the professor so there is a little partiality which exists.

ACADEMICS & FACULTY:

This semester there had been a change in the duration of classes( previously it was 55 minutes and now it is 60 min) and so it is quite tedious. And I believe our lunch break and coffee breaks which are for 20 min and 15 min respectively are too short to refresh oneself. Assignments are usually last minute rushes however am amazed at my peers\' works. There is always enough time to study before examinations so no need to worry if one have missed most of the classes or have plenty to mug up before the semester exam. Most of the well experienced senior teachers\' classes are worth attending (even if it means waking up at 7.00 on a cold winter morning). However some of the guest lecturers are quite a bore and its better to sleep through the whole lecture. Miranda House has a lot to offer in the overall development of an individual. The groups and societies of the college provides a space for one to renew their passion in art, music, dance and so on. The campus does not lack its own share of festivities and in february we have the annual college fest "tempest" followed by the fests of each of the departments. The annual fest tempest is the much awaited fest in the whole of north campus. Usually it is a three day long affair and the final day is the day where we have the music concert flanked by well known artists of the country.Life at Miranda house is an experience worth taking.

Students can also pursue allied courses along with their discipline courses in their second year. Also the college provided an opportunity to students to learn different languages during their college hours.

FOREIGN EXCHANGE & INTERNATIONAL EXPOSURE: The college has frequently collaborated with King's College, London who even hold summer schools in our college. Then there a Dutch-Excahnge program as well, organization of which is mostly handled by the economics department. I have also seen many exchange students in our campus from European and African nations. There are also some colleges like the SP Jain institute that takes in students for visting their offshore campus, the cost of which is bore by the institute themself. The college provides foreign language courses for students who are interested. The main language used in the campus is english and hindi, though the language of teaching is strictly english.

Also there are various exchange programs that keep happening throughout the year. Recently students from a Dutch University visited our college for an exchange program that lasted a week. The college conducts tests and interviews for students who wish to represent the college internationally in foreign exchange programs. Once selected, students have to pay a minimal amount for an enriching and worthwhile experience. FEES AND SCHOLARSHIP: Delhi Univeristy charges minimal tuition fee which can be afforded by every strata of the society. However there are special concessions for people belonging to different strands of the society. For instance, there is a different academic cut off (to seek admission) and different fee structure for students belonging to different categories which makes it easy for socially backward classes to seek education. Physically disabled students are provided special assistance in the college. Scholorships are also offered by the college to capable students.

HOSTELS & FOOD: The college has an on campus hostel. The famous Miranda House hostel is a heritage building. Its beautiful, rooms are available on twin sharing basis. The old hostel comprises of two floors and each room has a connected verandah or a gallery . Apart from that both the new and the old hostel has a laundrette , a pantry on each floor which is equipped with refrigerators, microwaves and hot plates. Apart from that the rooms are nice , but again have no AC's which is the only problem. The hostel has a fitness centre , a medical room ( doctor is available three days a week) and also has a full-time counsellor . The hostel also has a tv room, sports centre and wi-fi connection. The quality of food is average but the breakfast is very good and healthy. But, apart from that the hostel is actually the most beautiful hostel in Delhi university.
