ACADEMICS & FACULTY:
  • Well, we’re talking about the top engineering institute in India. Undoubtedly, the reputation of the college is primarily because of its excellent teaching staff. One of the mandatory rules at IITK is that all the professors should be at least a Ph.D. qualified. Most of them have got their degrees from great and high-ranking universities in the USA. Apart from their crazy degrees, they’ve ENOUGH industrial experience and teaching experience at many other institutions. Some are visiting faculties at other engineering colleges. IIT Kanpur’s faculty for Computer and Electronics course is excellent and students are extremely satisfied with the teaching level. Communication isn’t a problem as almost all communicate in English.
  • Some try to get a bit friendly and talk in Hindi as well. All in all extremely chilled out and highly knowledgeable faculty at IITK.

ACADEMICS & FACULTY:

The daily routine consists of lectures/lab sessions from 8 am to 5 pm in the evening and are generally lightly loaded with assignments and pre-reads in the first two years. The number of assignments and pre-reads increases in the last two years as more specialization subjects come into picture.

The quality of teaching is outstanding. It is something that will rarely be seen anywhere else in India. Teachers like HC Verma make physics come to life with their practical and experiment based teaching methods in class. Faculties who are well known in the industry and academic area teach the subjects with passion beyond imagination. They are however extremely finnicky about discipline. The doors for the classes will be shut at 8:00 am sharp for the first class and no exceptions will be made. This makes the teachers more credible and someone whom you would look upto in future. The college has every experience that you could have thought of. Every hostel has its own canteen and mess. The canteens are open till late night  for the convenience of students and also there is a CCD inside the campus that gives out good coffee at subsidized rates! There is Antaragni which is one of the biggest cultural festival in North India and it is later followed by Techkriti which is again one of the biggest technology festival in India. There are inter and intra hostel competitions as well. Overall the place offers exposure to variety of activities that would shape your personality and turn you into one of the finest ask in the market at the end of 4/5 years you spend there.

FEES AND SCHOLARSHIP:
  • The course fee per year has been changing for some time now. It used to be INR 64000 per annum during 2009-2013. The fee is subsidized way beyond measure if one looks at the facilities and infrastructure made available to the students. However, the fee is subsidized for SC/ST candidates and numerous scholarships are available for other students as well who come from lower income group.
  • The scholarships are generally merit cum means and given to roughly 100 students every year. A lot of students also take loans for their education which are readily made available from banks like SBI and UBI that have a branch inside the campus at extremely good rates. All of this makes it almost a non-existent factor when you are thinking of an education at IIT Kanpur.

FEES AND SCHOLARSHIP:
  • Students receive a full tuition waiver and pocket allowance of Rs. 1000 per month for the duration of the program IIT Kanpur.
  • This is merit cum means based scholarship; hence, the recipients must maintain a minimum CPI of 6.5.
  • However, if CPI falls below 6.5 (but remains above 6.0) then the pocket allowance is withdrawn.
  • A student must only submit their parental income certificate to apply for this scholarship.
  • This scholarship can be availed by those who are other than category (SC/ST) students with annual parental income less than 4.5 lakhs.

PLACEMENTS & ALUMNI NETWORK:
  • A lot of students go out to do their interns at universities across the world in USA, UK, Europe, Japan, Australia, Taiwan, Singapore etc. where their travel and accommodation costs are covered by the institute offering them interns.
  • The placements happen in the month of December for final year students. They happen over a period of one month where companies visit the campus vigorously. The highest salary offered is generally close to Rs 1 Cr or more. It is generally offered by an IT based firm to a computer science student for a position outside India (mostly in the US). apart from these few outliers, day one sees around 120-150 students getting placed at an annual salary package of more than Rs 15 Lakhs per annum. The companies following them offer lower packages. The overall average salary of the batch would be somewhere around Rs 9-10 lakhs per annum.
  • There is a strong alumni network in place which goes back long enough and the spread is all across the globe and across organizations of different types. Even though it\'s been more than 2 years now since I left IIT Kanpur, I can still approach and alumni with just my name and place of graduation. There are Alumni meets that happen every year at several locations across the country where graduates from batches of 1960\'s also join and share their experience with the younger generation. Job switching is way easier for an IIT Kanpur graduate because of the presence of a strong alumni network and a strong bond that every IIT Kanpur graduate shares with the other irrespective of the years they graduate in.

It also houses faculty offices, laboratories, and administrative buildings. The academic area is connected by a corridor which links all the major buildings. IIT Kanpur has 10 boys\' hostels, 2 girls\' hostels, and one girls\' residence tower all together called the \'Halls of Residence\'. Being a major industrial town, Kanpur has a good connectivity by rail and by road but it lags in terms of air connectivity. IIT Kanpur was suffering significantly in comparison to IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay due to this reason as far as visiting companies and other dignitaries are concerned On 1 June 2013, a helicopter ferry service was started at IIT Kanpur run by Pawan Hans Helicopters Limited. In its initial run, the service connects IIT Kanpur to Lucknow, but it is planned to later extend it to New Delhi. Currently, there are two flights daily to and from Lucknow Airport with a duration of 25 minutes. Lucknow Airport operates both international and domestic flights to major cities. IIT Kanpur is the first academic institution in the country to provide such a service. The estimated charges are Rs. 6000 (USD $100) per person. If anyone would like to avail the facility he/she have to contact Student Placement Office (SPO) at IIT Kanpur since the helicopter service is subject to availability of chopper rights.
