Kalyani was established in 1953 as a satellite Town about 48 kilometres north of Kolkata. Designed to become an educational and industrial hub, Kalyani was affectionately called the dream-child of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, the then Chief Minister of West Bengal. Though two Universities, two engineering colleges and a good number of regional and state-level institutions and a number of excellent schools are located in Kalyani, there was no degree college in the town. Kalyani Mahavidyalaya was established in 1999 to cater not only to the needs of Kalyani but also the vast areas in Nadia, Hooghly and North 24 Parganas.

Kalyani Mahavidyalaya offers necessary facilities to its students. Some of them are mentioned below:

Laboratory:

The institution has seven departments (Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Microbiology, Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, Computer Science, Geography) that require a laboratory facility. The furnishing and decorations of laboratories are at par the scientific standard and safety guidelines as applicable in every subject concerned. Laboratories are equipped with Information & Communication Technology (ICT) Facilities including computers, projectors, and high-speed internet. 

Library:

At present, the college Library occupies about 2500 sq. ft. area and can accommodate about 100 students at a time. The library initially began with just 1000 books growing rapidly to a collection of 16000 plus at present. The library of Kalyani Mahavidyalaya aims to support the teaching-learning activity in the college and to ensure the optimum utilization of the available resources. 

Sports:

The college owns a picturesque sports ground with natural grass with an area of 1200 sq mt. fully surrounded by protective fencing. The ground can facilitate the preliminary level of athletic events. Moreover, the ground can host a range of games and sports including football, cricket, volleyball etc.

Cafeteria:

From the very beginning of the College, the College Canteen has been functioning efficiently. The canteen is located inside the College. The canteen provides refreshment to students as well as teaching and non-teaching staff.

ICT Facilities:

Keeping pace with the age of Information & Communication Technology-assisted teaching, digital learning and e-resource enabled knowledge sharing, the institute has provided a comprehensive computer facility to individual departments and in a centralized manner.

Health Centre:

The college has a health centre to render primary medical services to the students, teaching and non-teaching staff in case of any medical urgency.

Kalyani Mahavidyalaya Alumni Association (KMAA):

The objects for which the society is established are:

1. To acquire, establish, start, aid, run, maintain or manage educational institutes, libraries for the benefit of the Students.
2. To arrange and organize lectures, debates, discussions, seminars & excursions for the diffusion of knowledge.
3. To publish or cause to be published useful literature, magazines, etc. without profit motive.
4. To study, cultivate and demonstrate the art of music and dancing.
5. To promote and encourage the advancement of literary, cultural, political, religious & scientific education.
6. To establish and maintain basic and adult education centre to remove the illiteracy.
7. To foster and perpetuate friendship, cooperation, teaching, research and business relationships among the alumni.
8. To share educational, professional and life experiences among the alumni of the university.
9. To form individual alumni association of each department of the university.

Kalyani Mahavidyalaya Admission Procedure:

The admission process for Kalyani Mahavidyalaya is done in offline mode. All students are directed to bring all their testimonials like Mark sheets, Valid identification proof and cast Certificate (for Reserve Category). All the documents should be brought along with at least one xerox copy each. The documents that need to be verified include:

1. School leave Certificate
2. 10+2 level board examination mark sheet
3. Casre Category Certificate (if any)
4. Application form
