IIT Kanpur infrastructure offers students a wide range of amenities for a better learning experience. IITK offers hostels, a library, laboratories and sporting facilities on the campus premises.

The IIT Kanpur campus is spread over 1055 acres of lush green area in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The institute campus is called a “mini-city” in itself, housing around 14,000 people, including faculty and non-teaching staff members. Hostel

• The IIT Kanpur hostel is one of the country's biggest and most spacious hostels, housing thousands of admitted students.
• The hostel offers unique facilities such as 22 hours of food and mess amenities, which include both the hostel canteen and various food chains available on the campus.
• The IITK campus hostel aims to become a home away from home for the admitted students. Basic amenities like 24x7 electricity and power backup, sanitary facilities and nutritious food are offered round the clock.
• In addition, the hostels have a TV room, reading room, sports amenities like a basketball court, a football field, a badminton court and a volleyball court, a computer centre and everyday newspapers, journals and magazines. 
• Students must note that the sporting courts have floodlights, which enable them to play even at night.
• The IIT Kanpur hostels are maintained with the warden's help and a student-elected representative.
• IITK has separate hostels for boys and girls.
• Single-occupancy rooms are available for PG students.

Library

• IIT Kanpur has an exceptional library called the P K Kelkar Library, which has over 3 Lakh volumes and subscriptions to over 1000 periodicals.
• The IIT Kanpur campus library is three-storeyed, with an area of 6973 square metres of floor space.
• Considered one of the best libraries in the country, the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur library adds an average of 4500 volumes to its collection every year.
• The library is generally open from 8 am to 12 midnight (and 9 am to 5:30 pm on Sundays), but the library is kept open 24x7 during the examination period.
• The IIT Kanpur Infrastructure includes a fully air-conditioned library with a computer system with high bandwidth. 
• The computers are equipped with Wifi and VPN, which play a vital role in the student's and faculty's academic life, research, and teaching.
• Notably, the library is fully automated with high-end servers, including over 50 computers for in-house operations with a trained workforce.

Flight Laboratory

• Considered unique only to the institution, the IIT Kanpur infrastructure has an inbuilt airstrip inside the campus.
• The airstrip connects the institute to Lucknow via helicopters, making IITK one of the first academic institutions in the nation to have this facility.
• “Pawan Hans-Connect IIT” is a current working business model which aims to connect academicians, foreign faculties, other professionals, MNCs, and the residing students of the IIT Kanpur campus for visitation. 
• The flight laboratory promotes knowledge and resource sharing from the respected scholars visiting the campus.
• The lab also offers flying photography facilities.

Open Air Theatre

• IIT Kanpur infrastructure includes a state-of-the-art open-air theatre, equipped with all modern technology. 
• With a seating capacity of 1400 people, the theatre has a great sound system and a giant projector. 
• The theatre is a place for screening movies and sports.
• In addition, the IITK infrastructure has added canteen facilities to the open-air theatre, making it a perfect place for students to sit and relax.
• There is also a Rock Climbing Wall inside the OAT, wherein students can go under the supervision of an experienced instructor.

Sporting Facilities

• The IIT Kanpur campus has world-class sporting facilities, various courts, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.
• The campus has 2 cricket fields, a 400-metre jogging/racing track, and basketball courts with floodlights (2 are synthetic and 1 is cemented).
• In addition, the IITK sporting facilities also include volleyball and tennis courts, yoga rooms, table tennis rooms, a taekwondo arena, and two gymnasiums.

Computer Centre

• IIT Kanpur facilities include large clusters of project PIs, office automation servers, telephone exchange, and other institute servers housed in five data centres with precise air conditioning. 
• In addition, a UPS system and a diesel generator provide 24-hour uninterrupted power to all CC facilities. 
• Students must note that the entire facility is open 24x7.

Community Centre

• The two Community Centres (ComC-1 and ComC-2) on the IIT Kanpur campus are primarily intended to provide a space for leisure amenities such as sports, private ceremonies such as weddings, and social/religious group activities for Institute personnel. 
• The receptions are held on the wedding lawn. 
• Recreational facilities are accessible in rooms 2 and 3 of the two community centres. 
• At the same time, private ceremonies and social and religious gatherings are available in Rooms 4, 5 and 6 and the courtyard and accompanying amenities.

Book Club

• Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur infrastructure includes a book club for the institute's bookworms.
