Indian Institute of Technology, [IIT] Bombay

IIT Bombay was founded in 1958. In 1961, the Parliament decreed IITs as Institutes of National Importance. A high-power committee of recommended in 1946 Government of India establishments of four higher institutes of technology to set the direction for the development of technical education in the country. Planning for the Institute at Mumbai began in 1957 and the first batch of 100 students was admitted in 1958. Since its establishment in Powai, the institute has physically expanded to include more than 584 major buildings with a combined area of more than 2.396 gross square feet

Eligibility Criteria at Indian Institute of Technology, [IIT] Bombay

  • A four-year Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree in any discipline  with  first class or 60% marks (55% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category) in aggregate (including all years/semesters) or a minimum CPI of 6.5 (6 in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category) out of 10 , from the universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

Admission Procedure at Indian Institute of Technology, [IIT] Bombay

  • Admission to IIT Bombay is enabled through its various entrance examinations, like the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for the undergraduate programme, the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) for postgraduate programmes, the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED), MET for M.Phil, JAM for M.Sc and M.Sc-Ph.D Dual Degree programmes.

ACADEMICS & FACULTY:
  • The class timings vary every year at Indian Institute of Technology.
  • Exams are planned very well and very efficiently.
  • Quality and method of teaching are excellent.
  • Living inside a college is fun.
  • Sports facilities, culture inside IITB is the best amongst all the other IITs.
CLUBS & ASSOCIATIONS:
  • There are many clubs inside IITB. STAB is a technical body of which there are many small clubs like robotics club, web and coding club, aeronautics club, etc.
  • There are sports, Debating club, maths, and physics club, krittika for space exploration etc. There are around 25-30 clubs for various activities inside IITB.
  • TECHFEST and Mood Indigo are a technical and cultural festival of IITB and both are Asia's largest fests among their genres.
  • ABHYUDAY is the social fest.
  • The college life in IITB is the best.

ACADEMICS & FACULTY:
  • Class timings depend upon the courses you choose.
  • The timetable is available on hand and one can choose course accordingly.
  • Exams are based on fundamentals and concepts that we develop. Projects are simple. Assignments may consume a lot of time and time management is essential.
  • Most of the Professors are very good in teaching.
  • We obviously choose courses after consulting seniors. Hence there was never a problem.
  • An odd case may happen that some courses might not be so well taught but these are never the core/compulsory courses.
  • Visiting professors from MIT/Stanford/Cambridge make way for some semesters and that is seen as a golden opportunity to learn more.
  • Overall experience has been quite excellent.
  • The teaching quality stands up to the prestige and name that the institute has established over last 50 years.

 

CLUBS & ASSOCIATIONS:
  • All kinds of Technical & Non-technical student societies and clubs are there at IIT Bombay.
  • EESA for Electrical Engineering, and branch wise each dept has different clubs.
  • Apart from that individual Sports Clubs for Tennis etc.
  • There are individual clubs for photography(PIXEL), painting (RANG), Music (SAAZ), Chess (DARK KNIGHT), etc.
  • Mood Indigo is Asia's largest college cultural festival as its known and famous.
  • Being the technology geeks of the country TECHFEST also attracts students from around the globe.
  • The life in general inside the campus is awesome.
  • Peaceful, greenery, as well as you will find people eating and roaming at 3am in the night. It's very safe.

ACADEMICS & FACULTY:
  • Usually, classes and labs get over between 8:30 AM to 7:30 PM. Many times by 5 PM.
  • There are quizzes conducted (around 3) every semester for a course in general ( it may vary with the course ) and mid-semester exams in the middle of the semester and end-semester exams.
  • The quality and method of teaching are excellent. We have the best faculty.
  • There are excellent minds here.The interaction is awesome. You get to learn a lot from the professors, classmates, and your books.
  • However since people study very much, there are some cases where a student gets depressed due to lack of excellent academic performance.
CLUBS & ASSOCIATIONS:
  • There are many many clubs in IIT Bombay. There are many to name. Dance club (INSYNC), music club, design club, rang club, and much more.
  • Main festivals are Mood Indigo(cult), Techfest(tech), and E-Summit(entrepreneurship).
  • Life is boundless. If you want to do anything here, there is support everywhere. There is nothing you can't do here. People here help each other a lot. It is known for senior-junior interaction.

  • Daily routine: It is a function of which year you are in and which stream are you majoring in, In general class starts at 8:30 AM in the morning and runs until 12:30 PM there is a lunch break from 12:30 PM - 02:00 PM . All the labs are scheduled from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM in general . There are also classes from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM .

  • Quality and method of Teaching: Quality is the best you can get in India . Almost all faculty is selected by a tough recruitment process . Method of teaching is dependent of every professor , some

    professor are great teachers but some are not.
  • Overall experience in college is Great .IIT Bombay gives you the exposure which won't be possible at any other college inside India.

CLUBS & ASSOCIATIONS:
  • IIT Bombay has a society for everything , you name it , we have a club for it.

  • IIT Bombay hosts ASIA's largest college and technical festivals. MOOD INDIGO ( cultural festival) attract a crowd of over 100,000 people every day during its 4-day span in December. TECHFEST ( technical festival ) invites the student from all around the world to showcase their Robots , machines, and other such inventions.

  • LIFE IS INCREDIBLE at IIT BOMBAY

ACADEMICS & FACULTY:
  • Generally We have our regular classes in the morning from 12-30 pm starting from 8-30 in IIT Bombay. After that usually three-day lab in the evening from 2 to 5 pm. We have two day weekend .
  • Quality of teaching is best . We have lectures , tutorials , quizzes and exam and overall evaluation  is quite strict .
  • One of the best experience of my life to study in IIT Bombay.
CLUBS & ASSOCIATIONS:
  • There are many student clubs IIT Bombay. They participate in many cultural , sports , acedemic and debate activities.
  • One of the biggest college festival in The asia named Mood Indigo is organised every year. Techfest a technical fest is organised every year.
  • Hence life best here.

ACADEMICS & FACULTY:
  • We mostly have 3-5 hours of class between 8:30 am to 8:30 pm. Some professors do assign projects in their coursework. Officially we have 2 quizzes, one mid-sem, and one final exam, which also vary from prof. to prof., some of whom also give assignments for better understanding of the topics.
  • The quality of teaching is very nice, and the teaching method comprises of lectures with in-class tutorials to enhance problem solving skills of the students.
  • The overall experience of the institute is very good with a great scope for scientific research.
CLUBS & ASSOCIATIONS:
  • There are many student societies working on various fields; like PG & UG council for respective bodies, Cultural association for cultural development, institute dance club, sports club, Photographic club, mountaineering club, Dramatics association etc. There are many scientific societies and clubs like Robotics club, MSI (Mars Society India), Kritika (for space exploration) etc. working in the campus. Many states also have their respective cultural socities for the advancement of their cultures among the students.
  • For technology there is Techfest (Asia's largest college technological festival), Mood Indigo (Asia's largest college cultural festival), Inter IIT sports (sports meet of all IITs), Avenues (the management school annual festival).
  • The life in college actually vary from person to person, and it also depends on the persons ability to tackle things. Sometimes it seems pressurizing during exams, and chilling during the culturals and festivals. In general, the life in campus is very good; a lot of scope in almost every field, you get enough chance to explore yourself with a lot of enthusiasts in your company.

  • They are fantastic teachers too and students are full of praise for them

  • There is nothing to say that hasn’t already been said about IIT Bombay

Festivals and Activities:

  • IIT Bombay hosts one of the most eagerly anticipated festivals in Asia, called 'Mood Indigo'
  • There is wild participation from across the Whole continent, and it regularly attracts a number of established as well as upcoming rock bands for its concert
  • The technical symposium quite simply called "Techfest" is the playground for the Tech Gods across India and some from even neighbouring countries
  • Techfest receives more participation then even the cultural festivals of most other colleges

  • The sports facilities in the campus are great with indoor basketball, volleyball and badminton courts, 6 lawn tennis courts and athletics, football and cricket grunds.
  • For the cultural scene, the Students Activity Centre (SAC) houses the Open Air Theatre most famous for the concerts during Mood Indigo, IIT Bombay's cultural festival.
  • College life in general is awesome.
