Behala College, Kolkata was established in the year 1963. The college has consolidated its position as a premier academic institution in the southern fringes of Kolkata from many years. It is also a Study Centre of Netaji Subhas Open University and Rabindra Bharati University.

The college is affiliated to the University of Calcutta. It is recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) in the year 1982  under the Refugee Rehabilitation Scheme of the Government of India in 2b and 12f sections. The college has been re-accredited with grade 'A' by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in the year 2015. 

The college is among the few institutions that were selected by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India under RUSA scheme for infrastructure development to receive funds (INR 2 crores). Behala College Admissions are made on the basis of merit.

Behala College Scholarships:

Every year the college provides scholarships for meritorious and eligible students. The scholarships awarded by the college are mentioned below:

Government Scholarships: Every year on an average of about 70 percent of students receive a backward class stipend who belongs to SC ST OBC category and about 44 percent students receive minority class stipend who belongs to Minority category.

Financial support by the college: 

• The students with marks above 85% in HS or equivalent examination, their tuition fee will be waived. 
• The student having the highest scorers in University examinations and best library user will be awarded.
• Financial support will be provided to the students with outstanding performance in sports.
• Economically challenged students will be awarded a 50% fee concession, who are regular in classes, having good results. 
• Full fee concession for the students having 100% attendance in class.

The Behala College Placement Cell guide students on various interview techniques, group discussions, aptitude tests, to achieve maximum possible placements for students by arranging training programs.

• In Campus Placement by TCS21 students were selected.
• In Campus Placement by ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company, 13 students were shortlisted.
• Career Counseling Program organized in collaboration with:
  • La Martiniere SEOMP Society – free courses on personality development, workplace readiness, etc.
  • IBT – orientation on government sector jobs and their preparation
• Seminar conducted by Consulting Management Incorporate Pvt. Ltd. on various skill development courses.
• Times of India Group conducted a workshop on ‘Employability Skills’.
