Government Engineering College Thrissur is one of the most esteemed and presumed technical education institutes in south India. The College was established in the year 1957 with undergrad programmes in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering branches. The pillar stone of the college Main Building was laid down by the then Honourable Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Prof. S. Rajaraman, a Civil Engineer of international repute and author of numerous books in planning and engineering was the first Principal of the college. The college campus spans over an area of 75 acres which is located at Ramavarmapuram, about 5 km from Thrissur city, 6 km from the Thrissur railway station and around 58 km from the Cochin Airport. It is one of the most famous college in engineering education with seven full-fledged undergraduate programmes, six part-time undergrad programmes, ten post-grad programmes and Ph.D research programmes in Engineering. Not only the engineering programmes, but also the college offers Undergrad and Post Grad programmes in Architecture and Post-grad programme in Computer Applications (MCA). The admission strength has grown from 120 during the inception of the college to 759 per year at present.

Government Engineering College Admissions 2024

GECT offers the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) with a duration of four years and Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) with a duration of five years respectively. The college also accepts lateral admissions in B.Tech 2nd year under GECT admission 2024. For the candidates who are employed, the college also provides Part-time B.Tech programme.

• For admission in B.Tech and B.Arch, aspirants must have to pass 10+2 level degree in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
• The candidates trying admission in B.Tech need to appear in national level entrance exam Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). The admissions for B.Arch course is done based on marks obtained in the qualifying exams and also on the NATA Score.
